LOS ANGELES — Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, Q-Tip, Eminem, Nas and Kanye West are coming to a theater near you.

The Indomina Group said Friday it will release Ice-T's rap documentary, which features all those artists, in North America on June 8.

Ice-T's directorial debut, "Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap," premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last month. The film shows classic rappers from across the country discussing how they write songs.

The 53-year-old entertainer says "music and movie lovers alike will really get into it."

I can't wait to see it for no other reason than it might dissect the meaning behind rap's spoken words. Real hip hop has been under represented in mainstream music, and at this point I'm glad. It makes it that much easier for me to discern real lyricists from those who are "molded" to be in the spotlight. There's a lot of trash on the radio and on TV that calls itself hip hop and its just not good or thoughtful or honest.

While I never considered Ice-T to be a talented lyricists in comparison to others of his generation, he has never been inauthentic. He's is and was a regular guy willing to take the risk of rapping when there was no money involved and he spoke about what he knew. As a product of his time he was unafraid to experiment with other types of musical influences, and not stupid enough to turn down other opportunities that were outside of the box (like acting).

To this day I wish there was a show that discussed rap lyrics because I really think that it would surprise music lovers towards and away from certain artists.

Advice to Ice t - next time your wife wants to pose nude - have her leave the relatives toddler out of the photo.

Can't wait. I've seen clips and looks like a great piece of work. I think fans of the genre will love it, and that those who aren't fans should give it a chance.
