Yesterday I reported on a bizarre incident I witnessed at Sundance last month: VEVO, the music portal owned by some of the biggest record labels in the US, had a pirated NFL playoff game playing on screens throughout its ‘PowerStation’ venue.

The NFL is very picky about its product... I hope they sue VEVO for piracy and gives the labels a taste of their own medicine!

People who make $10 an hour and steal stuff worth less than $1 should be thrown in jail forever, or fined a million dollars! It's only fair.

People who make millions? All they need is a finger wag, and a promise to never do it again and their golden.

It's only piracy when you do it. When someone who can buy politicians does it it's no longer illegal.

What's the sense of this story? It's wrong to steal; end of story — moving on. It's like you keep trying to cover for it. BTW I'm starting to think that Anonymous is editing HP.

There was a sense in the story that humans have a natural desire to seek the enjoyment of other human discoveries, within their own limits, and that their desire often leads to their own peril.

Piracy was a cheap way for portholes to test new platforms of distribution on the internet to see if the technology would work. At the same time ween a new generation on the technology and the platform. Of course people would use and adapt it if it was "free". Then once they got the audience then start charging for the service in small steps. Then pass laws to limit your competition by enforcing anti-piracy laws then sell the service to the producers of the content showing it works. Saying we're the one of the only games in town now even though you built your service on piracy. Which now that you have an audience you will start licensing. It's all about making technology commonplace and second nature then charging for it.

A good explanation of why the assignment of ownership rights should be unconstitutional, if humanity is to survive without greedily self-destructing.

During the archaic cable TV era, bounty hunters bought many drinks at bars to attract enough viewers to justify a lawsuit against a bar-owner playing a copyrighted work, e.g. a prize fight. I wonder if Internet bounty hunters have supplanted their trade. Ironically, the discoverer of this excellent example of alleged piracy must appreciate the old trade.

Can't believe this has been the Huffington Post's lead story for several hours. Isn't there something important happening somewhere?

No, unless music and art are unimportant to humans.
