Name: Giuseppe Mangiafico
Age: 28
Height: 6'1"
Before Weight: 360 to 370 pounds

How I Gained It: I have been a big guy most of my life. I've been on many diets and tried many weight-loss fads. I always attributed my weight to my love of food, or to poor choices, like eating fast food instead of healthier alternatives. Being a general contractor and managing multiple projects and many employees doesn't leave much time to eat healthy or exercise. I used that as an excuse to eat fast food and almost never be active. At my heaviest I weighed between 360 and 370 pounds.

Breaking Point: That all changed on January 1, 2011, when I decided to make a "New You Resolution" instead of a New Year's resolution. I stepped on a digital scale at a loading dock at one of our projects and saw that large number. I decided to stop with the excuses and make a life change.

How I Lost It: Since then, I have "lived" at the gym six to seven days a week. I make a point to be as active as I can be, by taking the stairs instead of escalators or elevators, or walking to the store instead of driving. I also completely overhauled my eating habits. I eat a high-protein diet and six to seven small meals a day. My meals include things like protein shakes, egg-white omelets, chicken breast, salad, steamed vegetables, sweet potatoes and tuna. I also drink one to two gallons of water a day and take high-quality supplements and vitamins. I make sure I purchase good quality products because I am pretty much what I eat! I do allow myself one cheat meal a week where I eat whatever I want. It keeps me sane, so I don't fall off the wagon.

I believe that 70 percent of my success has been from committing to my strict diet and the remaining 30 percent to working out extremely hard. Losing all of that weight wasn't easy! I like all of the positive attention I receive from friends now. Hearing compliments of how good I look beats the taste of a cheeseburger or pizza any day. I've been lucky to have the support of my family and girlfriend, who is a fitness instructor. She makes sure I keep on track! I carry pictures of myself from my heavier days with me to to remind me that I have put so much work and sacrifice into losing this weight that I don't want to throw it away.

After Weight: 215 pounds

Dear Giuseppe Mangiafico, I was wondering what vitamins you used to help you and what you did at the gym that helped. If you could send me a list of the workout and the vitamins that would be great. I started a low carb diet in august 2011 and today feb 27th I have gone down 45 pounds. I was 260 and am at 215 now. Trying to get to around 200 or less and build up muscle. Im 6'4" and 22. please let me know at my email. warprince23@aol.com your story is amazing

I have the greatest admiration for anyone who can make a life change like this. I have battled weight issues all my life. I'm afraid I could never sustain a weight loss that would require me to spend six or seven days in a gym or to eat a lot of bland protein based foods most of the week. I have had to incorporate life style changes gradually that help me to reach my fitness goals a little at a time. At the rate I'm going, I'll be the sexiest corpse in the cemetery when I'm 90.

Inspiring how Giuseppe lost his weight....now if only our food industry would be inspired to cut back on the excessive sodium and saturated fats in packaged foods, obesity would be less prevalent.

wow--u lost weight--u went to gym--u ate the right foods--what an eye opening inspiration!!!! you and how many millions of others are doing the same thing---why this is news worthy I can't understand---it's NOT like you discovered the cure to cancer---pleeassseee.........
11:01 AM on 02/23/2012
he has a life--- looks and sounds like you don't---Always somebody that hates what other people do to better themselves---have a nice day if your mind will let you
11:19 AM on 02/23/2012
trust me I DO--but i see nothing special about what he did---and I never said anything about hating him, just making a comment--and yes, my mind will let me and you have a ncie day also
11:19 AM on 02/23/2012
And yet there are millions of others that still need to do what he is doing. If just one of those people read this article, and are encouraged to make that change in their own lives than it is most definitely news worthy.

Stories like these about people losing weight piss me off everytime. "Guy loses 150 pounds" really? tell me how he did it. I would like to lose that much weight. "...I have "lived" at the gym six to seven days a week." OOOOOOhhhhhhh. See I live in the real world. I work 9-5 and have a wife and 2 kids at home. I also work a second job on the weekend sometimes 12-15 hours a day. I don't have time to goto the gym even 2-3 days a week. And if I did, what could I really accomplish in an hour each time. Plus, gym memberships cost money. Money which is better used buying diapers or baby formula, or paying my daughter's medical bills. Someone needs to show me 1 person that can lose that much weight without going to the gym. Please...

Well, he also states that he takes the stairs when he can as well as walking to the store instead of driving. I am not sure about your circumstances however, there are probably things you incorporate into your daily lifestyle that could make some kind of difference. It may not be as drastic as 150 lbs of weightloss but, any kind of positive change is better than nothing. As you stated, you have a wife and 2 children at home. I am sure they love you dearly and want you to be as healthy as you possibly can be. Best wishes.

wow This is just wonderful. I am happy for him. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to achieve his weight loss. My friend was dieing she weighed over 500 pds had diabetes, heart failure and wasn't given long to live that was over 10 years ago. She now weighs 140 pds. No longer has diabetes , no heart failure. and has dedicated her life to feeding the hungry she works everyday at the food bank. She had a fear of food going to waste (so she hate whatever was left over) She starved as a child. So she changed her way of thinking and now feeds others. Good luck to all those who are over weight. I have heard all the nasty things said about my friend. Shame on them. They did not know her heart.
