Foreign Policy:

KOLHAPUR, India - Four years ago, when she was expecting her first baby, Kisabai Biranje wanted desperately to be invisible. She tried for as long as she could to keep her pregnancy hidden behind the crumpled pleats of her floral printed cotton saris. But as the months passed, it became impossible to keep her bulging belly a secret.

Attaching having a child (a male as East Indians prefer) to having the respect of one's community is just disgusting. The backward thinking (about children) that is pervasive and persistent in that society is quite alarming in this day and age.

At least we know one thing, the threat of poverty and dying without being able to bring up a child doesn't deter them at all.

Just what we need.....another Indian baby in an already over-populated subcontinent area. To add to the misery, the child will barely emerge into adulthood when the child's mom will have a good chance of expiring.

Just what we need in a world overcrowded with seven billion people, fertility clinics for those over 60! We are a parasite that has infested this Earth beyond what it can handle!

How is this a baby factory? This happens in the West and we don't call it a baby factory.

Uhmm the European population is declining if you haven't noticed and in the US it is the illegal aliens who keep the population growing.

I am referring to where article talks about older mothers conceiving thru technology. This happens in the west too. Nothing to do with rates of population. A factory denotes that it is where things are being produced for a market...very misleading.

Always find it a bit selfish when people have children late in life.

I agree, You die and leave the child without a parent. It's great being a greandparent. You can give them back when they wear you out.

The title seems misleading.
