Grammy Awards 2012: TV's Best Music Moments (VIDEO)

Grammy Awards 2012

The Huffington Post   Posted: 02/11/2012 10:18 am

HuffPost TV is celebrating the 2012 Grammys by looking back at some of our favorite TV music moments. Music is great for setting the mood, especially when it comes to TV's most memorable scenes.

Who can forget when Marissa shot Trey on "The O.C.?" You may not remember exactly what happened, but chances are you remember that it was Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" that set off such a pop culture frenzy. It even inspired the iconic "Saturday Night Live" digital short, "Dear Sister."

Then there's the final scene of "The Sopranos," which featured the Journey classic "Don't Stop Believin'." Tony Soprano will live on forever thanks to the infamous series finale blackout, in which the scene cut to black precisely on the phrase "Don't stop."

Check out some of HuffPost TV's favorite memorable music moments below, featuring music from "Grey's Anatomy," "Six Feet Under" and "My So-Called Life." But you might want to grab a box of tissues. Some of these scenes are especially hard to re-watch.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "ER"

I can't think of a more defining moment for "ER" than the death of Dr. Greene. It's an image that no fan can ever forget, and the use of the iconic song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," beautifully reworked by Hawaiian artist IZ, doesn't make this pill any easier to swallow. We'll miss you, Dr. Greene.

That moment on freaks and geeks was when I fell in love with Jason Segel. Today he is still my favorite actor :)

2.: Where is House in the list? Some of the music in there seems so mediocre that I wonder why it is on the list.

Here is one that outdoes most of what You claim is top notch. I know these are tribute videos but both songs were in the series and fit like a glove.

Two things:

1. Hoffpost, I am truely angry about you introducing your great site all over the planet but blocking video outside the US. Either get your s**t together and make the videoy available to the other 80% of your visitors, or just stop claiming You are oh so international.

All this time I thought that Leonard Cohen wrote Hallelujah
09:42 AM on 02/13/2012
In fairness to the "authors", they do mention the first one is a cover, and they say Jeff Buckley's "famous version". Would be nice if they mentioned Leonard Cohen, though. The guy's got a new album out and all.

Completely ridiculous!!! - He is canadian. If he were an American he would get his due but even Canada is WAY too far away for any true Ameican to recognize anything comes from there. ;o)

The worst thing about all this is that hese are the same people who tell us how imprtant it is to implement ACTA, SOPA and others to protect the rights of the talents. - When all the time all they want to protect is the rights of the parasites to make money off the things the talents create after letting them sign contracts that border on fraud. - From the wrong sinde.

"Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley was first aired in the finale of Season 3 of the West Wing airing on May 22, 2002 in the episode name "Posse Comitatus". Haunting music and very apprpriate for WW's finale that year. Have never seen OC ... guess I'm way too old .. lol. The West Wing utilized popular, jazz, classical and rock in excellent "punctuation marks" in the script.

The final six minutes of Six Feet Under are the most satisfying and heartbreaking six minutes in all of my personal television history.

Some of these clips are memorable, clever, and/or cute; TV's best music moment, hands down, was the Beatles' first Ed Sullivan appearance. In a matter of minutes, it changed music and culture.

I just read the Beyonce article and can't believe someone would actually name their baby Blue!

Friends of mine used to have a dog named Blue which was very appropriate for a dog but not for a baby!

How could HP forget the most important music moment in television history? Check it out:

Cheesy? Maybe, but the lack of dialogue changed television into a visual medium. Before Miami Vice, tv was just radio with pictures.

No disrespect to any other shows, but those final 6 minutes of Six Feet Under are justifiably famous for being some of the most brilliant television ever. It couldn't mean much to folks who didn't know the Fishers or know those the Fishers cared about but even 60 years from now those six minutes will probably still bring tears to my eyes.

I was given the soundtrack to 6 Ft Under while working on a job not too long ago. I threw it into my cpu & when Breathe Me came on my boss walked in and asked "You want me to start crying now? Because I will."

Complete agreement. Makes me wish I could have background music for my death.

Great conclusion to a great show filled with talented people.
