Rey Maualuga Assault: Bengals Linebacker Charged With Assault In Ohio

CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga (mow-uh-LOO'-guh) has been charged with assault stemming from a downtown Cincinnati bar incident.

Police cited the 25-year-old Maualuga with the misdemeanor count on Friday after investigating allegations by a bar employee that Maualuga punched him in the face early Sunday morning. Maualuga's arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 17. No attorney was listed for him.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the club doesn't comment on unresolved legal matters.

The former Southern Cal star was fined by the NFL two game checks and part of his signing bonus in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges in northern Kentucky. In that case, he got a suspended seven-day jail sentence, had his driver's license suspended for 90 days, and was sent to an alcohol/drug program.

Maualuga is proving himself to be not just a knucklehead, but an underperforming football player as well.

Next big drinking game on college campuses across the nation will involve drinking whenever an NFL player that has been arrested/convicted playing in the game makes a play. Expect a lot of drunken frat boys in the upcoming season.

Just another outstanding NFL player for kids to look up to..... Good thing the NFL doesn't have more 5cum-baqs like Tebow... sure wouldn't want our kids to look up to him.

He seems like a stand-up, admit your wrongs kind of guy to me. He admitted his DUI charge in front of a judge and paid for what he did wrong. I am not saying that he did not commit this crime, but I sure hope not. He has such a bright future in front of him with the talent he had first displayed while playing college ball in Southern Cal, and secondly signing with the Bengals a few years ago. I hope this behavior doesn't continue because he is such an asset to the Bengals. Keep it together Mr. Maualuga. Don't embarrass yourself and the team after a surprisingly good season, and an even brighter looking next season.

This is his second time getting into trouble....flush him. Thank Mike Brown, the owner of the Bengals....always buys players on the cheap, which is how the team ends up with these miscreants.

He was a second round pick, how exactly was he bought "on the cheap"? Because he wasn't a first rounder?

Well, I am sorry, but I do not believe it. He is clean cut, college educated and has success in the work force, just look at him, he is the spitting image of a "gentleman"..... Why would he risk any aspect of his comfortable life with such a stupid behavior? And when have you ever heard of a professional athlete doing something like that? Just rumors.

When are Cincinnati residents going to learn to not interact with Bengals players. It is probably the number 1 cause of violent crime in downtown Cincy.
