Bloomberg:

Sleep ranks right up there with weight in the pantheon of health issues to obsess over: Millions of people worry that they aren't catching enough ZZZs, or that the ones they are catching aren't high-quality.

Those numbers are far too large for gadget-makers to ignore. As a result, a growing number of devices purport to track, coach and improve sleep performance, taking advantage of the computing power of mobile phones and personal computers.

I got the Zeo. I recommend the table top alarm clock version over the one that connects to your i-phone as they haven't worked out the bugs completely. That said, this is really an amazing device that records your REM sleep, light and deep sleep and the times you wake up during the night as well as how long it takes you to get to sleep. True, it is a bit bulky around your head and takes some getting used to, but the results were quite interesting. I discovered that I was getting far less overall deep sleep than most people my age, which surprised me since I sleep through the night without much trouble. On their website, they recommend stopping caffeine. I have a cup of coffee in the morning and a tea at lunch and dinner. I cut out just the tea at dinner and my total deep sleep went from 25 minutes to over an hour, immediately. It is believed that deep sleep is important for your health, so if people are losing that much deep sleep from caffeine, we may have a major health issue that has yet to be recognized. In any case, I recommend this for anyone who is having sleep problems or is just interested in the quality of their sleep.
