BAFTAs 2012 Red Carpet Roundup: Understated Chic Or Totally Boring? (PHOTOS)

It's the eleventh hour for Hollywood style, with celebs taking their final red carpet turns at the 2012 BAFTAs before the biggest red carpet of them all: the Oscars.

We have to admit that we were a bit underwhelmed with the amount of black and white on the British red carpet, but a few pops of color (thank goodness for Viola Davis and Fearne Cotton!) brightened up the night. But perhaps the stars are just saving up their energy for some super-exciting Oscars outfits?

At least that's what we're hoping. Below, check out the style stars of the night (we're developing a serious girl crush on Fearne), those whose fashions fell flat (sorry, Meryl Streep) and those who came out somewhere in the middle. Click through and vote: who had the best look of the evening?

I only liked a few out of the 33 or so pictures. I can't believe that most of these people don't have full length mirrors in their homes or maybe even eyes to see with. Their choices were for the most part , horrible. With the money they have at their disposal and the fact that a lot of them can get free outfits to wear (just for advertising who it is they are wearing) , I can't believe they chose what they did. They need to open their eyes and quit believing all their Yes men/and women when they ask "does this look okay on me?".

I saw her recently on a British talk show and I barely recognized either her look or her voice (and I've always loved her too). She looked and talked very, very strange and un-Gillian like. I don't know if she's gone through some problem or change in her life.

Ouch! To be honest, I voted '3' on most of them, since the vast majority weren't great or weren't terrible, they were just sorta there.

I loved Penelope Cruz: she looked magnificent. Michelle Williams did too. Oh, and like the other commenter, I really enjoyed Helena Bonham-Carter's look! She's just whacky. :)

Octavia Spencer -- honey, that dress just doesn't have the correct shape for your shape. Ouch.

Oh, and who was it who was wearing the Victoria Beckham gown? She looked fantastic.

That was Melissa George in Victoria Beckham. She was on Alias as Michael Vartan's pyscho wife and she's been in other things too. She also played the 'hot nanny' on Friends.

Oh, I know who she is, I just couldn't remember who wore the gown after looking at 32 pics. :)

But she looked fantastic. Then again, I'm a big fan of Posh's designs usually.

I really like Octavia Spencer. She dresses very well, always elegant and never over the top. Michelle Williams looks very well. But, overall, I think that these dresses were kinda blah and boring. I did really like Helena Bonham Carter - she always shows up in something unique and interesting, as opposed to most of the others who were plain dull.

My problem with Helena Bonham Carter is that she looks a little too much like the character she portrayed in the Harry Potter films. It almost seems like she liked the costume a bit too much.
