Costa Concordia Disaster: Video Inside Ship Shows Crew Reactions During Crash (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/12/2012 12:11 pm Updated: 02/14/2012 2:08 pm

Previously unseen footage inside the Costa Concordia cruise ship released on Italian TV shows crew reactions to the ship's imminent sinking. In the video, Captain Francesco Schettino is briefly highlighted about halfway in. The new footage was originally aired on the Italian TV station TG5, and the captain can be seen talking on the telephone during the portion in which he is highlighted.

The captain remains under house arrest following the deaths of at least 17 people aboard the sunken cruise ship, while he claims the cruise liner's parent company "ordered a salute" to the island of Giglio as the massive ship passed. Captain Schettino has fallen under sharp criticism for his actions prior to and during the ship sinking, as he is alleged to have abandoned the ship before all the passengers were off, and his recorded arguments with the Italian Coast Guard set off further outrage. Schettino's mysterious relationship with a blonde dancer, Domnica Cemortan, has drawn even more questions about how the captain acted as the leader of the vessel.

Rough seas have recently hindered efforts to remove fuel from Costa Concordia, and a fuel leak could lead to an additional environmental disaster. Experts say if the the rough waters continue to jar the crippled ship, it could fall into a deeper seabed, which would further complicate pumping out fuel and the ship's removal.

Footage the should of stayed unseen because it reveals and indicates nothing of any value or interest whatsoever.

Wow, finally a video that cracks the case wide open. :(

The thing that pisses me off the most is the photos of people posing in front of the ship. Let's remember that for at least 17 people that luxury cruise liner ultimately became a tomb. There are likely still bodies inside of the ship, so please get your smiling mug, your gaudy fur coat, and your canon power shot back to whatever wine tasting you came from.

The only interesting thing from the clip was the statement that it supposedly showed the captain being "pressurized to evacuate the vessel". Not sure what that means, but the idea of someone being "pressurized" seemed interesting.
01:20 PM on 02/13/2012
Pressurized! So that's why he couldn't stay with the ship until all of the passengers got off?
I wonder who it was who "pressurized" him to the point that he abandoned his ship and its passengers?

The captain remains under house arrest. Now there's an appropriate punishment for causing probably the biggest disaster in Italy's history. Italy's justice system is as bad as they get. First Amanda Knox is released for a crime likely committed and now the captain isn't even behind bars. What a joke.

Is everyone guilty in your eyes if they are involved in something? This is why we have procedures to follow; laws, court hearings. You don't just say, "Hey, I think you're guilty so in jail you go."
09:57 AM on 02/13/2012
And just who do you think is to blame? The guests? Dance instructors? Or the maids? I may be wrong but I be leave the Captain is the one who is in control of the ship.
10:33 AM on 02/13/2012
Knox was in jail for years under badly handled investigation evidence, conflicting testimony, suspicion of murder while this guy is home with his wife when we know he caused the crash (he made that statement a while ago) and we know he abandoned ship.

Shouldn't he be in jail? Isn't that where he'd be in America? Or England, Spain, Germany, France, on and on and on civilized countries?
01:24 PM on 02/13/2012
These two cases in do not resemble each other in any way and should not be compared.
03:47 PM on 02/13/2012
Actually they do. Maybe neither intentionally murdered the victims they were murdered. Intent means nothing when murder is murder.
