Fergie Grammys 2012 Red Carpet Dress: Fab or Fug? (PHOTOS, POLL)

Fergie called her outfit choice "the safe one." We're dying to see what her alternative was, because the Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown she chose for the 2012 Grammy red carpet was far from safe.

Between the vibrant reddish orange color (some might call it "traffic cone") and the oversized lace, allowing a black bra and a pair of black "granny panties" (E! News' words, not ours) to peek through, you could see this dress coming a mile away.

Fergie told Giuliana Rancic that the gown was flown in from Paris, hot off Jean Paul Gaultier's couture runway. So she must have felt pretty confident in her "safe" choice.

But what did everyone else think? It's one of those "love it or hate it" looks... so tell us: did you love it or hate it?

The dress looks amazing, very detailed, great flowing lines and curves. if she wore something different underneath, even some sort of teddy or something complimentary, it would have been great. but grannys? yuk.

Love the dress, can't stand whats in it. If she wanted to make a statement, she succeded. It says I'm an exhibitionist. If she had worn orange undergarments, it wouldn't have been nearly so dramatic or noticable. I think that was the point. She really is not that attractive to begin with.

I don't think it's accurate to call her ensemble a "dress." "Dress" implies that it is clothing, and honestly, there's just not enough fabric or coverage for it to be considered as much.

On a side note, she clearly desperately wanted to wear lingerie to the event. So why did she bother with the tangerine-colored rag overlay? Seems a bit superfluous. Bikinis are perfectly adequate and appropriate for black tie occasions, don't you agree?
