A 52-year-old Tamarac man killed himself Saturday morning at a Broward shooting range, according to a Broward's Sheriff's Office release. When police went to notify his wife at home, they found her dead in a possible murder-suicide.

Police report that the man rented a gun at the Arizona Shooting Range & Emporium in Lauderdale Lakes at 10:18 a.m. He then went into the target-shooting area and shot himself in the head at 10:33 a.m., according to the release.

He was transported to Broward General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, BSO reports.

Police say a detective arrived at his Tamarac home at 1 p.m. The wife's car was in the driveway, but the doors were locked and no one answered. Concerned for her safety, the detective entered the house and found the deceased wife, 45, in a bedroom.

Neighbors told CBS Miami that they rarely saw the couple, who were married for 15 years, but the husband was occasionally seen walking their golden retriever.

The Sun Sentinel reports that last October, another man committed suicide at the same gun range, leaving behind a long suicide note in the parking lot.

BSO's Dani Moschella told NBC Miami, "When a desperate person wants to kill himself, he's going to do whatever he can to do that. Unfortunately, sometimes, they abuse gun ranges."

I hope he followed all the other rules of range safety.

He failed to keep the gun pointed downrange but he treated as if it was loaded and didn't point it at anything he wasn't willing to shoot. Two out of three?

He found a cheeper way to kill himself instead of going to a gunstore and purchasing a weapon. Also gets around the background check.

Um... if he murdered his wife, why would he need to rent a firearm to commit suicide?
03:43 PM on 02/14/2012
It doesn't say how the wife died.

The range where I shoot will not allow you to rent a gun unless you already have one of your own, or you have someone else with you.  Good policy, IMO.

It's a good policy as long as the person with you is going to be the person you murder before you commit suicide. :)

Good point...

The fact is, no matter how good a law or a policy, it does not regulate people's minds, morality or ethics. He could of just as easily offed himself at anytime he had the gun in his hand.

Unfortunately, that's what happened here a few years ago. A woman and her 20 year old son rented handguns at Shoot Straight in Casselberry, FL, she killed him then herself.
