This was much like I pictured in my brain as I read the book. Gabrielle's voice is not, however! How funny to "hear" someone through their text, then hear their actual voice and not have them match.

A view of garbage on the street? Brown plastic covered booths, tables and chairs with a foot and a half between them, cheek to jowl with the next patrons and chunky institutionsl type of plates.
Plain white walls and not a plant in sight. Bright, hospital room lighting. Barely room to swing a cat within the entire establishment.
The kitchen with all it's constant noise and smells (and Ms.Hamilton's swearing) a few feet away from the tables.
Don't know about you, but the food could be the best in the world, but if ambience doesn't exist or is at bare minimum I won't bother with the place. To me the atmosphere is half of the meal - no matter how rushed I am.
Maybe NewYorkers are different, but I would pass this by.
