Saturday Night Live: Zooey Deschanel Gets Quirky With Mary Kate Olsen, Michael Cera And Bjork (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/12/2012 2:52 pm Updated: 02/13/2012 1:45 pm

Zooey Deschanel, well-documented possessor of quirk, was a great sport Saturday night when she took part in a sketch that made fun of her own public persona.

In it, Abby Elliott dons a vintage dress and some thick brown bangs to host a show called "Bein' Quirky," and Zooey does an amazingly accurate impression of Mary-Kate Olsen, but our hat really goes off to Taran Killam, who may actually be Michael Cera in disguise. That laugh. That voice.

Between this and Nicolas Cage's equally self-aware appearance on "Weekend Update", this was the weekend of humble celebrities in Studio 8H.

Most SNL skits aren't that funny but this made me laugh out loud. Their impressions were right on. Zooey as Olsen and Killam as Cera were brilliant.

You know what would be quirky? If she finally let those sweater puppies out of their cage

Two words Zooey is probably really tired of hearing when people describe her: Adorable and Quirky. Alas both are true. She really is adorable (Sorry)

I loved when "Mary-Kate Olsen" walked in the room. That's what she looks like every time they shoot a picture of her walking around New York City. The gigantic cup of Starbucks was hilarious.

This was probably the first time I ever saw Taran Killam be very good. I'm still waiting for Jay Pharaoh and Paul Brittain. Zooey was a great host, also. But I'm surprised they didn't do a Wizard of Oz spoof.

Tarem has actually been good in a number of sketches over the last two seasons. You probably did not realize it was him.

Paul (who has now left the show) and Jay I agree with, although they are both very funny. SNL is simply not the right environment for everyone.

Have you never seen Paul Brittain's Franco impression??? A+

Taran's Eminem impression on Weekend Update was probably the best impression I've ever seen on SNL. I think he's the strongest cast member next to Kristen Wiig.

Nice premise. Weak execution. Kudos to Ms. Deschanel for making fun of herself.

Does Deschanel really talk like that? I've never heard her speak before. If so, what drag.
11:53 AM on 02/13/2012
Yes, it's quite heartbreaking. She was my idol until I heard her answer the question what is something you simply couldn't live without: "I dunno . . . clothes? Cause, ya know, everyone needs to wear clothes." (not a direct quote, but imagine the inflection combined with the absolute point-missingness of the response) :(

Yeah, I didn't even know who she was until a short while ago while I was doing reference hunting for some painting studies. I saw her striking eyes and dark hair, a combination I adore, and I was immediately curious as to who she was. I don't watch TV at all, so I'm clueless as to 60%, or so, of the celebs that garner attention here on HP. In short, her voice is a total buzzkill.

Q. What is your favorite date?

A. April 7, because it's not to hot and not too cold.
