How perfect for the media for Whitney Houston to have died at the beginning of sweeps month.

Please just let her go and Rest In Peace.
And let her take her horrific role-model behavior with her.
Yes, she had a great voice, she was beautiful and she could even get through a script with the help of prompters, tutors and ventriloquist coaches.
But Whitney is not someone I would hold up to young black girls as someone to emulate.
She destroyed her daughter's emotional health, squandered untold fortunes and died at her own hand.
That is a TRAGEDY for her family and those you loved her but apparently couldn't stop her from self-destruction.
Let's all turn off the homages and tears.
She is gone now and yet another victim to the American culture of self-indulgence, self-abuse and self-obsession.
I loved her voice, but hated her life!

Whitney had a voice. But she was lightweight as she is compared to Dinah Washington's smoky voice, Ella Fitzgerald's magnificant gift, Lena Horne's wonderful voice ( listen to her sing Story Weather", Sarah Vaughn. Those ladies were far more talented she could ever be.

Whitney is my heavy-weight champion when it comes to music. Unfortunately for you miserable hungry author, I never heard of any of those names you mentioned as musicians. The world loved Whitney. I stared loving her songs and music when I was a student in Nigeria. Never missed a day without listening to her "I will alway love you". Played her music everyday for my new-born baby when I was older, and just love everything about her. I do not mind or care about whose music you listen to, but please do not insult Whitney's lovers by comparing her to whom-ever now that we are mourning her death. Accord us the respect to mourn our hero, dear friend, sister, daughter, and mother, in our own different ways. We will always love and remember her for ever, because "she is the voice and very unique". I will miss you Whitney, and my prayers are for your immediate family members especially your Mother and Daughter. May the good God grant you ethernal life. Amen.

Truly a big lost to the world. Yes, it's a road that everyone must travel, but not like this. It's like losing my own sister. Whitney was truly a role model for me as a child growing up. When she fell short to drugs was a shock for me, but; we're all human. Whitney I never judged you!! You're still an angel. I love you and always will. My prayer and thoughts are with your daughter Bobbi and the rest of the Houston family, I know you guys will be ok. Just knowing you'll see her again in heaven' singing with the angels.

I see Roger Ebert is jumping the gun again. We don't know how Whitney died until the police complete their investigation and give the coroner the OK to release their report.

Great singers come and go... but that is not the case for the greatest MISS WHITNEY HOUSTON. Forever your music will inspire billions, and your songs will be sung by many generations to come. YOU ARE ALONE IN YOUR THRONE WHITNEY AS THE WORLD'S GREATEST SINGER.
GO AND SING WITH THE ANGELS OF THE LORD. Saving All Your Love for Him...

I am very saddened by the passing away of one of the world's greatest singers. It is a pity that living in the greatest country in the world could not get the help she needed. She battled with addiction and finally lost it. Will surely miss her. It is a pity we will never hear her live again.

For those who have never seen it (and especially those who have.)
Whitney at the peak of her vocal power....circa 1991
To this day...the very FINEST rendition I have ever heard...of a very familiar song.

"How the Media Reacted..." to ANYTHING is not even close to being news, and doesn't merit discussion outside of journalism school - let alone an actual headline.

If only the media gave this much attention to the erosion of Americans' civil rights via the National Defense Authorization Act, which enables the indefinite detention of American citizens without evidence or a trial, perhaps there might have been more of a reaction to that. But instead, the media focuses on the lives of people who makes sounds with their mouths that others enjoy. The HufPost itself has half a dozen stories on its front page devoted to the passing of someone whose own actions most likely contributed to her early demise. Thanks, HuffPost, for contributing in your small way to the demise of the nation.

Some people wonder if any of these celebrities were there when Whitney needed them. Some posters simply declare (without knowing) that these celebrities were not there. We don't know that. We don't know if there was even room for them to be there for Whitney. Whitney was a mega-star. We do know that many of the celebrities are surrounded by folks who are battling addictions. There can be little doubt that people who were actually close to Whitney, were there for Whitney. There were people who tried to be there for Amy Winehouse and people who are trying to be there for Lindsey Lohan. In the end, it is a personal battle. You can not 'support' a person 'out' of addition, you cannot not 'hate' them 'out' of addition, you cannot 'guilt-trip' them 'out' of addition, you can not 'berate' them 'out', 'love' them 'out', 'pull' them out. In the end, they have to 'walk' out... or not.

I suspect that most of these celebrities are doing like most everyone else: Thinking about where they were in their lives when they were listening to this or that Whitney Houston song and grieving for the lost of the individual who was present during those memories.

Wise words.

I fought back tears. She's gone too soon.
We were all pulling for her.

I read a report that She had been taking prescription Xanix. That and She was drinking heavily then She got into the hot tub in her suite. She passed out and drowned.

Warning to all using hot tubs. Even just drinking this can happen to you too.
