Cloud Gate Transformed Into Vibrant Light Display

Cloud Gate, the commandingly large sculpture by artist Anish Kapoor known affectionately as "The Bean" is the focus of a new project that will make you smile. Built on the site of Chicago's Millenium Park, Kapoor's sculpture has remained a popular attraction since its christening in 2006, though one duo is finding new potential for Cloud Gate. The two-person collective of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, aka Luftwerk, devised a vision that uses the reflexive properties of Kapoor's enormous sculpture to create a mesmerizing light show.

For Luminous Field, the duo set up a series of projectors that bounce the choreographed light sequences off of Cloud Gate to create a type of futuristic dance floor. The orchestrated lights are set to music by Owen Clayton Condon of Third Coast Percussion, creating an experience that is wildly expressive while still calculated. Luminous Field will mark the first site-specific work since Cloud Gate's construction in 2004.

Luminous Field will run until February 20th, so get thee to Chicago to see the magic before your very eyes!
