Delhi Bombing: Israeli Diplomat's Car In India Hit By Blast, According To Spokesman

India Bomb

First Posted: 02/13/2012 7:19 am Updated: 02/14/2012 2:10 pm

JERUSALEM (AP) - Assailants targeted Israeli diplomats in India and Georgia in near-simultaneous strikes on Monday, wounding two people in a car bombing in New Delhi, officials said. Israel said an attempted car bombing in Georgia was thwarted.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly accused archenemy Iran, and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah.

"Today we witnessed two attempts of terrorism against innocent civilians," Prime Minister told a gathering of lawmakers from his Likud Party. "Iran is behind these attacks and it is the largest terror exporter in the world." he said.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attacks. But Netanyahu also said Israel had thwarted similar attacks in recent months in Azerbaijan and Thailand.

"In all those cases, the elements behind these attacks were Iran and its protege Hezbollah," he said, vowing to "act with a strong hand against international terror."

Both Hezbollah and Iran have deep grievances against the Jewish state.

Hezbollah battled Israel in a monthlong war in the summer of 2006, and on Sunday, it the Lebanese guerrilla group marked the anniversary of the 2008 assassination of one of its commanders, Imad Mughniyeh, in a bombing widely believed to have been carried out by Israel. Iran suspects Israeli involvement in a series of killings of officials and scientists involved in its controversial nuclear program.

Israel routinely advises its citizens to use caution when traveling abroad. It has had a standing alert for tourists visiting India since a 2008 attack on a Jewish center in Mumbai.

The explosion in India tore through a diplomat's car, Israeli officials said. Indian officials said the driver and a diplomat's wife were injured.

The explosion took place in the late afternoon close to the embassy, said embassy spokesman David Goldfarb. Television footage showed a charred minivan with blue diplomatic plates, its rear door apparently blown out.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor would not discuss who was injured nor the extent of the injuries because it was a security matter. "We are looking into the incident and cooperation with local security forces is excellent," Palmor said from Israel.

Authorities in the former Soviet republic of Georgia said an explosive device was planted on the car of a driver for the Israeli Embassy.

Shota Utiashvili, spokesman for the Georgian Interior Ministry, said the driver noticed a package attached to his car's undercarriage on Monday and called police.

Police found a grenade in the package and it was defused, Utiashvili said. He did not specify where the car was parked or say when the device was discovered.

There was no immediate comment from Iran or Hezbollah. But speculation will undoubtedly be raised over the possibility of Iranian-linked payback for assassinations on nuclear scientists and other covert plots that Tehran has blamed on Israel's spy agency Mossad and Western allies.

"There have been all kinds of mysterious things happening in Iran, and it could be an Iranian counterattack," said Mike Herzog, a retired Israeli general and former top aide to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. "It's no secret that Iran uses Hezbollah globally, and Hezbollah has the capacity to carry out attacks around the globe."

Hezbollah dominates the government of Lebanon, which borders Israel to the north.

Israel, like the West, accuses Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, and has urged the international community to consider all means, including military action, to stop Tehran. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Last month, a director of Iran's main uranium enrichment site was killed in a blast from a magnetic bomb placed on his car. The official, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, was at least the fifth member of Iran's scientific community killed in apparent targeted attacks in the past two years.

Iran accused Israel of being behind the attacks. Later, Iran's official news agency IRNA said it had "evidence" of alleged U.S. and British involvement in the Roshan killing.

In a signal that Iran could strike back for Roshan's killing, Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, the spokesman for Iran's Joint Armed Forces Staff, was quoted by the semiofficial ISNA news agency last month as saying that Tehran was "reviewing the punishment" of "behind-the-scene elements" involved in the assassination.

"Iran's response will be a tormenting one for supporters of state terrorism," he said, without elaborating. "The enemies of the Iranian nation, especially the United States, Britain and the Zionist regime, or Israel, have to be held responsible for their activities."

Iran also has blamed the U.S. and allies for a sophisticated computer virus, known as Stuxnet, that was programmed to disrupt the centrifuges used in uranium enrichment. Iran said the virus was detected in its systems, but claimed no serious setbacks occurred.

Israeli diplomats have been frequent targets of attackers around the world.

In January, a foreign suspect with alleged links to Hezbollah militants led Thai police to a warehouse filled with materials commonly used to make bombs. Police seized more than 8,800 pounds (4,000 kilograms) of urea fertilizer and several gallons of liquid ammonium nitrate at the warehouse in Samut Sakhon, on the western outskirts of Bangkok.

The U.S. and Israel warned their citizens of a possible terror threat

In January 2010, assailants detonated a roadside bomb near a convoy of cars carrying Israeli diplomats in Jordan. No one was hurt, and there was no claim of responsibility.

In 1992, a bombing attack at the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires killed 29 people. Two years later, a bombing at a Jewish community center in that city killed 85 people.

Argentines have long suspected high-level Iranian diplomats were involved in the 1994 bombing.

The Jewish group Chabad was one of the targets in a 2008 rampage by Islamic militants in the Indian city of Chabad. The attacks killed more than 160 people. Among them were six people at the Chabad house, including the rabbi who ran the site.

Investigators work the scene of a vehicle that exploded near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi on February 13, 2012. An Israeli embassy car blew up February 13 in the Indian capital, injuring an Israeli diplomat and one other person, but it was not immediately known whether the explosion was caused by a bomb, officials said. When Israel goes around the world attacking or assasinating people they should expect their enemies would be enbolden. Israel should be very sincere and move ahead with making peace and forming a Palestinian State. A Palestinian State would leave Iran and Syria in the dark and isolated because the Arab States would QUICKLY recognize Israel!

No mention is forthcoming, of course, that Iran has not engaged in a war of aggression for centuries, or that Hezbollah would not exist were it not for the repeated Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
But don't expect any notions of reciprocity, equity or moral consistency out of the Israeli regime. Simply put, in the fevered imagination of Likudists and their fellow travellers in the US and the west in general, Israel has no obligations to anyone, only rights and entitlements; in other world, the Israeli regime is characterized by a sociopathic, criminal mind set and is a danger to the peace of the entire world.

"Hezbollah would not exist were it not for the repeated Israeli aggression against Lebanon."

You seem to be OK with Syrian and Palestinian aggression against Lebanon.
No big surprise there. Logic is not one of the aspects of this kind of catastrophically biased worldview.

The stupidist thing is that the Arab nations can't figure out they would be better off befriending Israel. Where does waging war continue to take them? Or is Israel just a convenient excuse for keeping their tyranical governments in place?

The words that Obama uses to express the US support for the Zionist regime are expressions of the US obedience und subordination to their Zionist masters. "Iron Clad" support, and in "Lock Step" with their fascist master. The US is a slave of the Israel lobby and these words express this enslavement very well.

There's an awful lot of folks saying Isreal has no right to be there and they stole the land from Palestine......well, according to historical records, the jews were there right from the beginning, hence Abraham, Canaan etc. They have always been there and checking through history there has always been fighting in the area. Here's a little known fact however that helps shed light on the ongoing issues. In the Madrasas of Saudi Arabia (and no doubt elsewhere) schoolchildren are taught that as long as a Jew is alive the gates to the muslim paradise will not open. In fact they will not open until the world population has been 'reverted' back to islam. As Jews are not allowed to revert back, they have to be killed and in the last days of earth, if a jew looks at a muslim, he will only see a tree, giving the muslim the ability to attack and kill the jew. Then when everyone else has been reverted by choice OR by force, the gates of the islamic heaven will open. I sat through these lessons being hammered into 5 year olds by similar religious folks like Abu Hamza. Peace will never happen therefore, but it has nothing to do with Isreal having existed for over 4000 years!

F&F

Only when the world forces the Muslims to confront their institutionalized propagating of hatred and intolerance that it indoctrinates its people with, the problem will continue.

Muslims who are entirely convinced the Jews are Satan and not human feel they will be rewarded if they kill them ... there's no negotiating with that sort of mindset.

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/3303.htm

Are there Jews that feel the same about Muslims ?
Certainly but they are a handful and considered an aberration and they are shamed, shunned and condemned.
Where are those Muslims that feel the same way about what's going on in their Mosques?

Why are Christians immediately attacked as soon as the country's autocrat is taken down - as has happened in Egypt?

Why are their churches burned while they are attacked and murdered?
Egypt or Nigeria ... its the same.

People must stand up and demand the institutionalized hatred and incitement stop being promoted throughout these societies or just accept that the silence the world exhibits in regard to this specific issue sends the message that this behavior is accepted.

"Only when the world forces the Muslims to confront their institutionalized propagating of hatred and intolerance that it indoctrinates its people with"

Heh.. if you were to say exactly the same thing about the Jews, you would be the first to scream "antisemitism" ... and rightfully so...

Let's give it a try :

"Only when the world forces the Jews to confront their institutionalized propagating of hatred and intolerance that it indoctrinates its people with"

So, why is it acceptable to put such a slander on "the Muslims" and why would it be unacceptable to say the exact same thing about "the Jews"?

Because they are Muslims?

Peace will arrive, when the three Abrahamic religions reform themselves. They have to become pluralistic, and get away from monotheism.
02:14 PM on 02/14/2012
human definitions of the three religions is the problem not the religions themselves. human form is created with an evil half and a pure half. Life, is the test to see how strong your loyalty and your fight against the evil half. But unfortunely, evil is proclaiming the most ( irregardless of ethnicity, religion, nationality) but given the typical life we are in, its always common to know that a good person is hard to find, or not the common among society. So, in principal, its only common to know that the evil doers are in higher numbers versus the good doer.

Israel doesn't commit terror attacks. It kills enemy combatant. Iran and its allies target civilians. That's the difference.

A further press release Israel went on to say Iran was responsible for the latest fighting in Darfur, The Sand Creek Indian Massacre, the Fukushima disaster, the spanish inquisition, and that time they lost that change they where sure they put on the night stand. Most Americans heard upon hearing this news spit Cheetos on their televisions yelling "bomb the muslims" then went back to American Idol.

In a related story another bomb went off in Tehran killing several Iranian civilians one of whom was a scientist in the latest in a series of attacks aimed at terrorizing the Iranian population. The Israeli organization thought responsible for this continues to employ several high ranking American politicians who refuse to classify the bombing of iranian civilians as "terror", and thus most Americans never heard much about it.

Sadly, targeted bombings have become too common now..
It is a back and forth that is very dangerous.
If a war starts there, between Iran and Israel, it will not be like any other war before it..It will be more devastating than ever, since the weapons are now so devastating.
Please, please, talk, negociate, use all means possible to resolve your differences, but no war.

Fact: Iran founded Hezbollah in 1982
Wrong. Hezbollah was founded by Syria in 1983 as a religious counterweight to communist Amal militia (also founded by Syria) which became a bit too strong. Basicly Hezbollah were shia religious would be supporters of Amal if it were not communist. You should do a more in depth study of Lebanese civil war started by Israeli invasion in 1982.

Fact:ran regularly ships arms to Hezbollah via Damascus.
OK i give you that, but this goes on only from 1990's before that they were purerely Syrian funded.

Fact:Thousands of Hezbollah militants are regularly trained in Iran
No serious proof of this claim. I would give you this one if you stated BY Iran but since you didn't i consider claim unproven.

Fact:Iran provides Hezbollah with about $500 million in financial support.
Gee you should be with IRS. BTW about which time periode for 500 million you are talking about? From 1983 or annualy? Even if it is annully it is a modest support comparing annual US taxpayer funds earmerked for Israel.

Does anyone really believe that if this were a serious attempt on the part of Iran that it would have been so clumsy and ineffective? For years we have been hearing of how sophisticated the IED's were in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc and always the manufacturers were alleged to be Iranian.
Yet now, these alleged attacks which were at first confused with 'fireworks' that caused relatively little damage are being blamed on Iran? And at just the right time too.
Sorry, this incident smells too much like previous manipulations to be taken at face value.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to attack the tiny little peaceloving country of Israel, it's not like they have ever attacked anyone...other than in Lebanon,Syria,Iraq,Iran,Egypt, the UAE,Jordan,Uruguay,Italy,France,Cyprus,Belgium,Greece,Norway,Germany,Tunisia,The Canary Islands,Malta,Gaza,The West Bank,Uganda,as well as the U.S.and Turkey in International Waters...I think this is only a partial list as well.
10:44 PM on 02/14/2012
Perhaps it is no use to recite (Middle Eastern) history to you but for once, be rational. Countries, like people do make mistakes and sometimes they pay for it...Israel included. Your list includes mostly Israeli reaction to aggression. Can you not admit that the "Arab Cause" today, has been rife with missed opportunities, acts of war, on-going prejudice against Jews and Christians, the humiliation of defeat and the rewriting of history to try to make up for it??? Islam, cannot seem to solve the problems of the modern world...jobs, health, education, government, technology, science, etc. because they cannot seperate religion from politics. Israel, seems to have done it. IBM, Microsoft, thousands of hi-tech, start-ups dot Israel. None in Arab lands. Jews make-up 35% of all Nobel Prize winners, Muslims (mostly non-Arabs=)1%...Israel GNP is about $6 Billion a year, that is equal to Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine combined. Arabs produce virtually nothing. If it wasn't for oil, they would be a true backwater. Be real, you have so much to learn from an older, wiser ..."tiny, little peace-loving country of Israel" and what is your contribution to the world? You ALSO discovered Monotheism! really, than why do you pray to/venerate the Kaaba in Mecca? Isn't that a meteorite? And isn't that IDOL WORSHIP? Real or not???This is only a partial list, I'm sure you could fill in the rest if you are honest with yourself.

Actually I'm an atheist, not a Muslim. All religion is bullsh!t in my eyes. Israel's GNP is equal to the UAE's where oil makes up 25% of the economy. I actually think some Jews are great. My favour phesicists and astronomers are Jews, as are some writers and musicians. The problem is not Judeaism, it is Zionism which is increasingly rascist and fascistic.
02:29 AM on 02/16/2012
I didn't comment about the GNP's to show how great the Jews are. I too am not a believer but I respect people's right to worship as they please as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone. One thing you must understand, Zionism means a "place for Jews" or the rebirth of their national homeland. It is a SECULAR movement. It has actually gotten LESS nationalistic over the years because Israel now consists of Jews(Ethiopians to Russians), Arabs (Christians, Muslims, Druze, Circassians) Far East Asians, Somali's, etc., The idea that "Israelis" are one specific group is long gone. But people like you, perhaps well-meaning, continue to use "Code Words", like Zionism, Racism, Fascism to discribe Jews because Israel is strong both economically and militarily, as a way to delegitimize the "Jewish" state. The bottom line is that you cannot accept Jews as equals, and you're right... we're actually better.
