'General Hospital' Exclusive Sneak Peek At Finola Hughes' Emotional Return (VIDEO)

Finola Hughes

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/13/2012 2:59 pm Updated: 02/13/2012 3:22 pm

"General Hospital" fan-favorite Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is coming back this week (Tues., Feb. 14, 3 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST on ABC), and we've got an exclusive sneak peek at her emotional return.

Hughes was a series regular from 1985 to 1992, winning a Daytime Emmy for the role in 1991. She returned for a few stints from 2006 to 2008 and again several times over the years to visit her friends and family in Port Charles, but this might be her most emotional reunion: Anna's back to help her daughter Robin (Kimberly McCullough) through what has been her toughest year yet.

With Robin's marriage to Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) finally back on track, she's now dealing with the fact that her HIV meds are no longer working. In November, McCullough announced that she's leaving the show soon to pursue a directorial career, so her character's reunion with her mom is one that is sure to make fans smile.

Hughes' return only fuels rumors that Robin will be killed off this month for February sweeps, though "GH" reps have only said, "Everyone is very aware of Robin’s history of living with HIV and wants to do the right thing. I will leave it at that."

Watch and tell us: Do you think "GH" will kill off Robin?

Geez...I can remember watching General Hospital way back in the 1980's just to see Anna Devane, when she was The Police Commissioner and Frisco Jones...[Jack Wagner]...was a rookie Police Officer for Port Charles married to Felicia...The story line back then was...Anna Devane was in love with Duke Lavery played by...[Ian Buchanan]...who at the time was a Crime Family Boss...Laughing.

I'm right there with you. Since abc wouldn't count the shows watched on soapnet, that's where I watch them. I feel no loyalty to a station that shows no loyalty to the viewer. It serves them right to have their 'new' shows tank so badly. ABC you blew it. Bring back our soaps and all is forgiven...almost.

It may be true because the original story line of her just leaving and never coming back was a bad story. I don't believe that Steve Burton is leaving GH. Don't you folks realize it's just a SOAP and they can do anything...LOL.
I don't like the new Maxie, she's too hyper and overplays her role. Not natural like the original.
11:39 AM on 02/14/2012
I think that depends on which "original" Maxie you are talking about. Robyn Richards was the most well known Maxi before Kirsten...

I have only been watching GH for the past 4-5 years and I agree with you; I do NOT like the new Maxie I feel as if she's trying too hard. I cannot wait for Kirsten Storms to return. Although I don't think she will. I've been hearing many rumors that she might be going back to Days.

As for Robin, I can't wait for her to leave! I was so happy when I read the report that she was leaving. I am counting the days!
07:03 PM on 02/14/2012
I stand corrected ... Kirsten Storms is the best Maxie...she was on GH for 6 years. She isn't returning because of her endometriosis illness and she was let go from GH. They really need to find another actress to play Maxie. This one is overplaying her role and is annoying.

My problem with General Hospital, is that the main characters are criminals. They kill, bribe, kidnap people and get away with it. They are all thugs. I once watched the show every day, Now I would rather read a good book than this junk.

Sorry huff post. On this one you missed. Just, I think it was Friday, Robin was told her new HIV med's were working.
After watching the whole thing unfold, I too, was worried they would kill off Robin. Not so, now it looks as if Jason may be their next sacrificial lamb. But then, soaps are wonderful places where people rise from the dead, children turn into teenagers over night, and plastic surgery is a plenty.

No, Thank God, Jason is safe; at least for now. He signed a contract in May of last year. Although the one I fear for is Jason & Sam's unborn child. Now that we know the baby is Jason's and the couple is happy, it's only a matter of time before tragedy strikes the couple again. I just hope that TPTB let Jason and Sam keep their baby. They deserve at least a little bit of happiness; and I would really LOVE to see Jason taking care of his child

That's good to know. As a seasoned soap viewer, I learned long ago in soaps very few things are absolutes. That's part of the fun! :)

I will miss Robin on the show but i'm glad Kimberly wants to further her career in directing I wish all the luck to her. I just wish they wouldn't kill her off maybe they want, GH needs to leave the door open for her atleast. She has spent almost all her life on the show it's gonna be hard to see her leave.

So now ABC is going to get rid of one of its primary characters on General Hospital? Who is in charge of ABC daytime and seemingly has a crusade to end all soap operas. They obviously don't have a clue of what viewers want to see. They've cancelled All My Children and One Life to Live and now are obviously doing all the can to get rid of General Hospital. Many of us who work have looked forward to seeing or catching up on these shows. They are corny but entertaining and allow us to take a few moments to unwind after a busy/hectic day. Does ABC daytime executives seriously think that all we want is news and talk shows from 5 AM through 7 PM--really? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has changed channels from ABC from 1 to 3 PM whenever I'm home. This is a dumb move on the part of ABC daytime and whoever is making these decisions really needs to look for other employment.
10:39 AM on 02/14/2012
GH isn't going to be cancelled anytime in the near future. Some characters will be leaving and will be replaced by the actors of OLTL this month. The character John McBain may replace the "BAD" cop in GH.

I don't think Robin's going to die right away but there's no other reason for Anna to return. Truthfully, she and Robert should've returned months ago and personally taken care of Lisa for their daughter so Robin wouldn't have had to go through all that.

Years ago, I would tape each episode and watch them on my day off. I couldn't miss a day. Now, I can turn it on every few weeks and feel like I haven't missed anything. Too many people have left. Most of the Quartermains are gone, and they always provided a lot of entertainment. Luke and Laura, of course. Remember the days of Sonny and Brenda, Emily and Nikolas, Lucky and Elizabeth, Courtney and Jason? AJ always had something sinister going on, and Carly was really interesting in the beginning. I can recall just dying for Bobbi to catch Carly with. . .what was her husband's name again?

I almost wish I could just watch episodes from 10, 20 years ago.

You can watch Soap Net. They aren't 10-20 years ago but they are about 5 years ago.

I think its inconsiderate of Kimberly McCullough to leave General Hospital right now, especially in light of the problems that soap operas are having staying on the air. She's developed a character that people watch every day and care about. This is just like when Genie Francis left and the writers wrote that horrific storyline wherein she ended up basically comatose which was RIDICULOUS and totally unfair to the people who had watched her on this show for 20+ years. and now McCullough is condemning one of the show's most beloved (and sometimes most irritating) heroines to death, most likely. Directorial career? Really? And has she directed anything yet? An episode of [fill in the blank]? Gee thanks for deserting one of the only 3 soaps left on the air, and the only one on ABC. Nice of you to appreciate that without this show, where might you be? Nobody has any loyalty anymore. Certainly not ABC to the shows and its viewers. So I guess why would I expect all the actors to care?
10:42 AM on 02/14/2012
Genie is on Y&R now and better than ever. Not like the innocent Laura. I gave up on ABC in the pm when I have nothing to do. CBS has better shows from 12:30pm-3pm.
11:41 AM on 02/14/2012
Sorry, but Kimberly owes nothing to a show that has continuously shown contempt for her character since her return seven years ago. The fact that she stayed that long speaks volumes about her gratitude towards her fans.

As a fan of BOTH Kimberly and her character, Robin, I wish her the best as she embarks on a new chapter of her career.

I love Robin too, but the soap is only going to last until September, meaning the last taping is probably in August...... My question is why couldn't McCullough wait a few extra months to see the show's end with her character? Even if she has other projects, her character could have less air time and stay until the end. A little selfish on her part to we fans of hers who have followed her since she was a little girl.
09:07 AM on 02/14/2012
I read a while back that Katie Couric is getting a talk show, and it's going in the 3 PM EST time slot that GH is in. Is that the reason you say GH will end its run in Sept.?
09:37 AM on 02/14/2012
I did not know GH was ending in Sept. That stinks! I do not watch it everyday, but I still like to turn it on. Why are they taking all of the soaps off of the air and replace it with talk shows? Talk shows are ok, but they can have their own slots. Replace the reality shows instead...to much drama and nasty talk. I do not know about everyone else, but I am getting to were tv can be eliminated from our home.

I wish Kim all the best in her endeavors but it will be a very sad day if the writers choose to end Robin's life allowing her exit. That said, they can always write a story line dictating her return should she decide she wants to see Robin live on. Also had the pleasure of meeting Finola Hughes at a Super Soap weekend in So Cal about 10 years ago and she is a very nice person.

Confused - Now she is doing better with her meds, so maybe, just maybe, she will stay longer and live longer. I thought Finola would be there for her funeral. I think it would be bad, bad, to kill off Robin this soon, since the show will probably go off air shortly. If it returns in six months or a year, then the latest happenings will be up-to-date, so we could find out more on Robin that way. Maybe this is just a PR ploy, but with Robin's new meds working fine, and taking more time off work to be with Emma, I would assume she will be on longer than expected. Hope so.

I remember when Robin (McCullough) was a little girl being carried around by every member on GH. She was the only child I ever saw them not replace with an older model later. Back then GH loved its fans and kept them entertained with awesome characters and delicious story lines! A police chief who was a head mob guy...secret agents Robert, Anna, and Sean...then later Frisco...

Oh the days when missing an episode wasn't an option even when we had a VCR!
