James Wolk Joins USA Network's 'Political Animals,' Shonda Rhimes Casts Blythe Danner In 'Gilded Lilys' And More Casting News

James Wolk Lands New TV Pilot & More Casting News

James Wolk has joined USA Network's six-hour political drama series "Political Animals," from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The series will revolve around Elaine Barrish, a divorced former First Lady and current Secretary of State, who is struggling to keep her family together while dealing with conflicts of the State Department. Wolk, the former "Lone Star" lead, will play her son Doug, who also serves as her chief of staff.

Wolk is currently guest starring in three episodes of ABC's "Happy Endings," as the seemingly perfect Grant, Max's new boyfriend.

But Wolk isn't the only star booking pilots. Check out some other TV news bits below.

--Jaime Ray Newman returns to "CSI: NY" as Mac's late wife, Claire, reports TVLine. Newman will reprise her role in the CBS cop drama’s eighth season finale, which is slated to air in May.

--Former "Friday Night Lights" star Michael B. Jordan is reuniting with Jason Katims for the third time in Katims' NBC hospital drama pilot "County." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan will play Travis Hancock, "a local intern from a rough neighborhood who has put himself through eight years of medical school with zero help but rarely lets that show."

--Blythe Danner and Sarah Bolger have joined Shonda Rhimes' ABC period drama "Gilded Lilys." Danner will play Caroline Lily, the ruthless but wickedly fun matriarch who has ruled the roost of New York society for decades, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Bolger will play Violet Langton Lily, the wealthy, aristocratic and rebellious daughter of hotel owners Edwin and Elizabeth Lily.

--Barry Corbin has been cast as Cam's dad in an upcoming episode of "Modern Family," TVGuide.com reported. Corbin will play Merle Tucker, who's the opposite of Cam's overly touchy-feely mother. Think of him more as the strong, silent type.

Casting directors, take note! Here are a few other stars we want to see land their own TV pilots. Guess we can scratched James Wolk off our wish list.
