Maryland Religious Leaders Support Offshore Wind

02/13/12 10:22 AM ET  AP

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Religious leaders in Prince George's County are calling on Maryland lawmakers to support offshore wind power development.

A group of 30 religious leaders says it plans to deliver a letter to the county's delegation supporting off-shore wind legislation. The group, which plans to release the letter on Monday, says it is supporting offshore wind because of the toll pollution from coal-fired power plants is having on the health of county communities.

Offshore wind is a key piece of Gov. Martin O'Malley's legislative agenda this session.

A bill that would have required utilities to enter into long-term wind power contracts failed last year over concerns about the costs to customers. This year, the governor is proposing legislation similar to a New Jersey law that sets requirements, but doesn't require long-term contracts.

Are these church leaders evangelicals? I doubt. Evangelical church leaders, like the Republican presidential candidates and senators, care two hoots about the climate and climate change. But these church 30 religious leaders must be liberals. Evangelical church leaders (oh yes and the right -leaning Catholic clergy as well) consider all these things as the designs of the devil. Evangelicals and right-wing Catholics are turning America insane. If a Republican finds his way to the White House then God really help this nation. The future for this country will be really dark. I hope these 30 religious leaders also back the various conservation issues that are so vital to this country.

What is that I see? The water currents under the windmills are mooving
as fast as the wind above it. What if we put watermills down there
and hooked them to those same cables?

Maybe the religious leaders can do something to get the off-shore wind generation cost down to something reasonable, too.

You mean a group of churches cares about human health and climate change? Now, that really is news!

They won't. The information revolution has them reeling backwards.
Their is a demand for progress on all fronts by all those they thought
were under their mind control. Not so anymore.

Go for it, O'Malley. I voted for you. Also, get that medical marijuana bill passed.
