Stephen Breyer, Supreme Court Justice, Robbed While On Vacation On Island Of Nevis

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed at knifepoint last Thursday at his family’s vacation home on the Caribbean island of Nevis, the Associated Press reported.

"Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed last week by a machete-wielding intruder at his vacation home in the West Indies," the AP reported. Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg told the AP that "the intruder took about $1,000 in cash and no one was hurt."

Breyer, 73, has had previous mishaps while vacationing, but those have involved accidents rather than crimes. Last May, he broke his collarbone when he fell from his bicycle while riding in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In 1993, a year before he joined the Court, he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Harvard Square, breaking several ribs and puncturing a lung.

The Supreme Court returns from its mid-term recess on Friday, when the justices will meet in their private conference before resuming oral arguments next Tuesday.
