New York Fashion Week Fall 2012: Backstage Beauty At Thakoon

The Inspiration: Audrey Hepburn

Makeup: It was no surprise to see NARS lead artist Diane Kendal hanging out backstage at Thakoon as she is the queen of fresh faces. Using her finger, she applied Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and Undress Me Brightening Powder to the face to create dewy skin. Then, Kendal patted white shimmer on top the cheeks and temples. Brows were brushed and kept natural like Hepburn, but she skipped the mascara and liner to make it modern. And for that head-turning pout, she gently glided Heat Wave on and topped with neon pink powder for a matte finish.

Hair: "The collection is very beautiful and cheerful," gushed Kerastase Paris stylist Odile Gilbert about Thakoon's fall 2012 line. "It looks like he had a great time designing." And the pro carried out this charm with a hairdo in nod to Audrey. She made bangs that came half-way down the forehead using the girls' natural hair. Volumeactiv hairspray helped to keep the fringe slick. Gilbert then built a tousled texture with the remainder of hair using Mousse Substantive before wrapping into a French twist.

Nails: At first glance, the models' manicures appeared unkempt with their dark tips, but I learned that was sort of the point. NARS manicurists wanted to give Thakoon's classy girl an edge so they applied two coats of Edelweiss (a buttercreme) and then two coats of Kata (a shiny black) on the ends.
