Tim And Eric Go On Austin Morning Show, Confuse Host (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/13/2012 9:06 am Updated: 02/13/2012 9:06 am

Tim and Eric are known for making fun of local television, but in an instance of reality imitating art, they can be just as funny on real-life local TV. Case in point: An appearance on "Good Day Austin" on a Texas Fox affiliate last Friday left the host struggling to explain the comedians to his audience when they came on to promote "Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie."

But Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim seem particularly at home during the interview -- after all, they've spent the better part of the last five years figuring out why local television is funny, and exploiting it, on "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job."

After taking the first minute or so of the interview to rearrange the plants on the table, Wareheim offers the "Billion Dollar Movie Guarantee," where he'll visit the homes of moviegoers to personally give back their money and tuck them into bed if they are unsatisfied with "Billion Dollar Movie." Considering Austin's reputation as a hotbed of art and innovation, it's likely that plenty of people working on the show were entertained, but the host and producers seemed baffled, based on how often they cut to clips of the duo's movie.

Even if you don't live in Austin to see Tim and Eric at the Alamo Drafthouse (known for its strict no-texting policy), you can download "Billion Dollar Movie" from iTunes now, or wait to see it in theaters on March 2.

Their humor is backwards which I think we need every once in a while. Half these shows on TV nowadays have such predictable plots and jokes that you know the punchline as soon as the show starts. Just watch "Two and Half Men” or any other boring sitcom. The Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job, is a parallel universe that these guys created mocking our own. If you can look past the insanity, there is, believe it or not, a method to their madness. It’s backwards comedy. If you don’t like it, at least try to understand why some people do.

Basically they have found an audience that loves infantile humor. Now that they have a real following they have found financing to make a big budget, special effects laden movie with "advanced" infantile humor.

That really is all there is to it.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read.

Well, if you don't get it then it would appear that way.

I think the host rolled with it just fine. Austin's comedy scene is thriving, it's pretty much the biggest comedy scene in North America after Chicago/NYC/LA. So unconventional humour is nothing unusual there. The city's motto is Keep Austin Weird. (which Portland stole. Posers.)

Two things:

1. I agree that the host did fine. He did milk the 'if you break anything I get fired' joke far too long.
2. Did Austin produce the Ken Kesey novel One Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest? No it was Portland. They keep it wierd its not a pose.

The host was pretty funny, and he was extremely laid back. Their antics didn't seem to phase him in the slightest.

It's an acquired taste. I think they're great. They're no Andy Kaufmann but they are extremely weird and funny. Best viewed while 420ing.

Trust me, Iv'tried. I've been at 4:20 anytime I watch, but the best I can muster is a half hearted chuckle. I find the feminine protection commercials funnier than their show.

I have no idea why, but I find these guys hilarious and am really looking forward to seeing this movie.
