Wisconsin Recall Petition Storage Site Disclosed By Elections Officials

Wisconsin Recall Elections

SCOTT BAUER   02/13/12 08:19 PM ET  AP

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin elections officials disclosed Monday that a 100-year-old white brick building two miles east of the state Capitol is the previously secret location where petitions seeking the recall of Gov. Scott Walker and five other Republican officeholders are being stored, checked and processed.

While the location of the building had been kept from the public for security reasons, a webcam that broadcast, without sound, the work being done attracted tens of thousands of visitors in the opening days.

The 147,000 sq.-foot building serves many government functions, including housing the state's motor pool and printing and mail services, so it's familiar to many state workers.

"This has been a catchall facility for the state for a long time," said Kevin Kennedy, director of the Government Accountability Board, which oversees elections and is in charge of the work being done. "When I described this as gated with barbed wire, a lot of state employees knew what I was talking about."

For the past month, about 50 temporary workers earning about $10 an hour have been poring through roughly 1.9 million signatures on the recall petitions submitted Jan. 17.

The camera is still running, broadcasting the work being done Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The elections board has until March 19 to determine whether enough signatures were collected to order recall elections for Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four GOP state senators.

The workers on Monday were going through the petitions line by line to flag any of the signatures that should not be counted for one of many reasons, including lack of an address or no date.

They have already gone through 15 packs of red pens.

"The sheer volume is the biggest challenge," Kennedy said.

The work is being done in almost total silence. Eighteen filing cabinets holding the original petitions on more than 300,000 pages of paper stand back-to-back across the center of the room. Stacks of empty boxes that circulators had brought the petitions in are against another wall.

Forty computer terminals are in place for putting information into databases that track the petitions.

"It's like working on a campaign in some sense," Kennedy said. "There's a lot of drudgery here."

Kennedy said it's difficult to say whether the work will get done by March 19. The board was granted a 30-day extension by a judge, but it could seek another one.

They may need another extension? So are the Republicans stalling? If they keep getting extensions maybe the can put the recall elections off until Walkers term expires.

However long it takes. The fact that it's being broadcast covers the cheating part of it. Repubs cheated in their own straw polls. They wouldn't think twice about 'losing' boxes of petitions. Scottie, pack your bags, the train's leaving the station.

Yea, well there have been a lot of Democrats caught cheating also. And old Scottie is not going anywhere so get used to it. The democratic sheriff in a town in Arizona has just been caught forging early ballots for the last Presidental race in 2008. So get over blaming the Republicans all the time for everything like the president does. Go to media matters and read what the democrats have been planning all along and have been caught and then go the the daily caller and see the memos of them doint their wrong doing including the white house.

Oh, Scottie!!! You got some 'splainin to do:

"{The more we learn about the way Scott Walker came to power, the more corrupt it appears. Six known Walker associates have been charged with a total of 15 felonies and 3 misdemeanors.

Tim Russell, Scott Walker's former Deputy Chief of Staff, has been arrested and charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor for stealing thousands of dollars intended for wounded veterans and families of military servicemembers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kevin Kavanaugh, Scott Walker's appointee to a Veteran Service Commission, has been arrested and charged with five felonies related to the theft of funds from Operation Freedom.

Brian Pierick, Scott Walker's campaign aide and former operator of ScottWalker.org, has been arrested and charged with felony enticement of a child.

Kelly Rindfleisch, Scott Walker's personal fundraiser for his campaign and his former Deputy Chief of Staff, has been charged with four felonies for sending more than 1,000 campaign emails while supposedly working on the clock for taxpayers just 25 feet from Scott Walker's office.

Darlene Wink, Scott Walker's former Director of Constituent Services, has been convicted of two misdemeanors under a plea deal for planning campaigning fundraisers, including one with Sarah Palin, on taxpayer dime.

William Gardner, Scott Walker's close friend and campaign donor, was convicted of the largest campaign finance violation in Wisconsin history for illegally funneling more than $43,000 to Friends of Scott Walker.}" - WalkerInvestigation.com

They are praying for a pardon before you boot out Walker so they won't turn on him yet! The GOP/TP are straight up thugs. They get that swagger from Bush/Cheney ala "Whatcha gonna do about it?"

HOWEVER, They are meeting up with a bunch of pissed off Wisconsinites that are gonna set them straight. I love you guys!

Way to support those whose service is so indispensable that cities would cease to operate without them.

About ten dollars / hour? So, in RepugnantCON terms, less FICA, state taxes, other miscellaneous "non-campaign" fees, that's what ? And he's referring to gross or take-home pay?
About ten dollars, means it's more than six dollars / hour, because then the figure can be rounded up.

What is "almost total silence" supposed to mean? People are only allowed to talk to each other every other Tuesday? They can't talk to the reporters, but no one has microphones in their homes (I hope) so they can't stop them from talking to relatives, who can then - at a latter time, depending on how the recall goes, talk to reporters or ghost-write a book, or be a guest on MSNBCtv or faux noise?

And then there's the time-line. They've already got one extension, and another seems likely to me. All the Koch-heads need do is find a likely judge to rule in their favor. The more delay, the more Walker-puppet can raise funds and put off campaigning by his opposition.

More bad news for/from the Koch-head in Madison: "Walker’s budget bill eliminated state funds for cancer screenings, colonoscopies, health exams, birth control and STD and pregnancy testing at Planned Parenthood clinics. It also terminated a contract Planned Parenthood had to coordinate breast and cervical cancer screenings in four Fox Valley counties." - Shepherd-Express, 2/14/12 ; online or locally in Milwaukee, WI.

Sorry, that was proved very false by the county hospitals that actually do the cancer screenings and other services.....not to mention politifact pants on fire......

Wisconsin just got rid of a politically active contractor committing fraud waste and abuse and - not suprisingly, did absolutely nothing for the public welfare.

Obfuscate and conflate much? Discerning readers who actually READ the entire Politifact piece (and not RedState Cliff Notes) will learn that the pantsonfire designation applies to a statement from Gwen Moore and NOT to reporting from the Shepherd Express or the Journal Sentinel.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Cutandpaste from Politifact:

"Gwen Moore said Walker eliminated "cancer screenings for uninsured women" in four Wisconsin counties and offered "no alternatives." But all Walker eliminated was a contract with Planned Parenthood for assisting women in getting the screenings.

And the screenings never ended -- nor did the assistance Planned Parenthood provided.

Moore’s claim was false and ridiculous -- our definition of PantsonFire."

Could you bring yourself to talk straight for once? Your verbiage contradicts your initial phrase. Also, not to mention, and then you do. CONs just can't bring themselves to even appear genuine.

Your unsupported allegation is not factual. You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

To sum up: Your claim is BS and blather. Don't like it? Too bad, so sad. Just sayin'.

Of the "known" Walker associates, two have been convicted and four (others) have been apprehended, according to Walker Investigation dot com. That's six people and not four people, for those who practise RepugnantCON neo-math.
Gov. Walker's got some 'splainin to do. Oh, Rickie!!!

Since we can believe almost nothing that comes out of the mouths of the political types, we are left with having to hear the experience of actual, non-politicians. BUT we don't get to hear them because the Media doesn't talk to them except to watch their reaction to Whitney Houston's death. I see all these "facts" thrown around - 15% bogus signatures for example. Which branch of corporate media came up with that? Seriously, having worked on a recount, a couple of times, the numbers are not available to anyone in the room doing the counting. A counter may know their own general impression, but it is impossible to extrapolate to the whole from one chair. The big difference between the "democrats" and the "republicans" (or the Right and the Left) is the RIght has begun to just do horrible, unconstitutional things right out in public. The Dems still hide it better. Corruption and Graft rule.

Seems to be one probable characteristic. Speaking of Wisconsin and Milwaukee specifically. You may recall (pun intended) or be able to find out that it was a real, live Socialist Party that cleaned up politics in the city. How's that for politics?
Nice to see that the framers of the WI constitution, allowed for corruption by having recall provisions in the law.
You should be aware that this is a 24/7/365 website and lately they've added an article about Scottie the bagger boy at the rate of one every day. That kind of production, may not be too concerned about quality.
For the radical CONservative side of the story, you may wish to peruse the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel online. For the Democratic side of the story, you may wish to peruse the Shepherd-Express, also online. (http://npaper-wehaa.com/shepherdexpress/ )
There's also a difference on what either party will spend large on.
