Elizabeth Warren, Scott Brown Tied In Massachusetts Poll

Brown Warren Poll

First Posted: 02/14/2012 11:13 am Updated: 02/14/2012 3:02 pm

Democrat Elizabeth Warren is neck and neck with Republican Sen. Scott Brown in the Massachusetts Senate race, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

The poll, conducted by Massachusetts think tank MassINC for the Boston NPR station WBUR, finds that 46 percent of likely voters in the state said they would vote for Warren, while 43 percent said they would vote for Brown. That's within the poll's margin of error.

The poll is the first to be conducted in the state since early December, but confirms that the race is likely to be a tightly fought one.

The new survey finds that both candidates are fairly popular in the state, although fewer have formed an opinion about Warren -- either because they hadn't heard of her or because they were undecided. Fifty percent of respondents have a favorable opinion of Brown and 29 percent have an unfavorable opinion, while 39 percent of respondents view Warren favorably and 29 percent view her unfavorably.

Brown leads 53 percent to 32 percent among those who have not listed their party affiliation or are something other than Democrat or Republican. Those voters have a mostly favorable opinion of Brown, whereas only 20 percent say they have a favorable opinion of Warren and 35 percent have an unfavorable opinion of her.

In the presidential race, the poll shows that voters would choose President Barack Obama over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 55 to 34 percent and would pick Obama over former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 66 to 19 percent.

The new poll was conducted Feb. 6-9 among 503 likely Massachusetts voters, and has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

Brown won't win and especially when he may have to support Santorum.  Even when caught in the act, Santorum blames a woman for his putting his foot in his mouth--his wife.

“Then, this weekend, (Santorum) had to explain away a section from his 2005 book It Takes A Family that accuses “radical feminists” of tearing women from away from the home. Here’s the passage, as cited in the New York  Read More...

Warren could be closing the name-recognition gapl. Thirteen percent of respondents said they had never heard of her, compared to 29 percent in a separate UMass Lowell/Boston Herald poll last week.

Twenty-eight percent viewed her unfavorably, 24 percent were undecided.

Asked for the first word/phrase that came to mind when they heard Brown’s name, the two most frequent responses were ‘‘Republican,’’ at 8 percent and ‘‘independent’’ at 4 percent.

Responses generating 2 percent each included ‘‘pick-up truck,’’ ‘‘moderate,’’ ‘‘dependable,’’ ‘‘good guy/good man,’’ ‘‘handsome,’’ ‘‘hard worker,’’ ‘‘honest,’’ ‘‘senator,’’ ‘‘deceiver/deceitful,’’ ‘‘politician,’’ and ‘‘doing a good job.’’

When the same was asked of Warren’s name, the most frequent responses were ‘‘intelligent,’’ at 5 percent, as well as ‘‘liberal’’ and ‘‘consumer advocate/protector,’’ both at 4 percent.

Warren’s 2 percent clusters on the same question were ‘‘Democrat,’’ ‘‘good,’’ ‘‘newcomer/fresh,’’ ‘‘progressive,’’ ‘‘don’t like her,’’ ‘‘unfavorable/undesirable,’’ ‘‘nothing,’’ and ‘‘strong/tough.’’

43 percent described Brown as a leader in the Senate, 38 percent said he was a follower.

Respondents were also asked if they felt there was a benefit for the state to have one Republican and one Democrat, Senator John F. Kerry, representing Massachusetts in the upper chamber.

Sixty percent said yes, 36 percent said no, and 5 percent were undecided.

Now that the voters are really looking at the choices, Warren will continue to lose support. People are not into voting socialist/marxist into office.

For all you liberals who missed your noon time prayers, you may recite the following:

Holy Mother Saint Elizabeth, hallowed be they name, thy socialist utopia kingdom come, thy mandates be done throughout the US as they are in Harvard. Provide for us this day our daily government handout and forgive all our debts as we are entitled to act irresponsibly. Lead us not into free thought or independence and deliver us from conservatives for thine is the elitism, arrogance and glory forever. Amen.

50% percent of respondents have a favorable view of Brown and 29% unfavorable. Warren has 39% favorable view and 29% unfavorable. Nuff said.

All that money you made from trying to stop the Asbestos victims from collecting their insurance payouts from the John Mansville catastrophe.

They have waited almost 30 years to collect from Travellers insurance and you wanted them to wait another 30.

Thank goodness you failed and the judge allowed the remaining victims to collect their money.

Despicable.

You should be ashamed to call yourself a democrat.

TIED ? LOL To read the euphoria of her getting into the race one would expect a 15 point led by now

If the Republicans couldn't elect a Rep in the 2010 "wave year" in the most Republican district in the state - Scott Brown has no chance in a Presidential year with a popular Dem on the ballot for President and the college kids on campus. There is a definite land line bias that will make this race seem closer that it is. That's OK. Always good to be kept on your toes. A dollar to a doughnut that a lot of the pro Brown chatter here is coming from out of state. Even the Republicans in this state know that Scotty is toast.

The ignorant labelling and misinformation here is typical of the politics of the day. Here is a highly educated, competent candidate that we are fortunate is seeking elective office.

Elizabeth Warren needs and deserves our support. Scott Brown, her opponent and the incumbent, was partially responsible for gutting key provisions of the financial consumer protection bill and personifies all that is wrong with Congress. He is now backing a bill that would gut health insurance coverage by allowing insurance companies the ability "just say no" to covering you.

Support her in this key race with more than words-contribute to offset the Wall Street and Big Pharma money being given to Scott Brown.

Why do they always need someone to blame?

But this is IMPOSSIBLE! Liberals make her out to be the best thing since Obama yet she is not winning by 20%?? Could it be the good people of MA see right through her and realize how far left she is and how much she dislikes anyone who doesnt take government handouts??

Gee Handy, if you are making up straw man numbers to impress others that Brownie #2 isn't going to get slaughtered nine months from now, why so low? Why not just say Warren should be leading 80-20 or its ”really” a GOP victory omen.
06:20 PM on 02/15/2012
Yep I'm going to vote for a candidate that ran out of washington with her tail between her legs when she realized that the banks created every fee imaginable to countermand the financial reform and consumer protection act of 2010 and the DODD/Frank bill. Actually Obama is using her as a pawn to try to oust Scott Brown's Senate seat in Massachusetts because he knows Racheal Madow can never defeat Brown should she choose to try.
