Homer City Generating Station Lawsuit: Environmental Groups Plan New Lawsuit Against Pennsylvania Coal Plant
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A coalition of environmental and community groups say they plan to file a new lawsuit against an Edison Mission Energy power plant in western Pennsylvania.
The Sierra Club and Earthjustice say in a statement Monday that the Homer City Generating Station, the state's second-largest coal plant, is violating clean air standards. The groups claim it released more sulfur dioxide last year than any plant in the nation.
A federal judge in Pittsburgh dismissed another pollution lawsuit against the plant last year, saying some claims were too old while others were superseded by state and federal laws.
California-based Edison said last month that it plans to add $700 million in pollution control equipment to the plant.
