Idris Elba Reflects On Winning Golden Globe For 'Luther' (VIDEO)

Many TV fans consider "The Wire" to be one of the greatest TV shows ever made, but its status as a critical darling, the Baltimore-based drug-war drama never won any Emmys or Golden Globes. After playing the business-minded drug dealer Stringer Bell on that show, Idris Elba's run as the brilliant, mercurial detective John Luther on BBC America's "Luther" has garnered him significantly more awards-season acclaim. He's been nominated for the Best Actor in a Miniseries Golden Globe for each of the show's first two seasons, and took home the award this year.

Elba stopped by "Live! With Kelly" (weekdays on ABC) where he reflected on his accomplishments and told a story about his ten-year-old daughter, who made a memorable appearance in his acceptance when he exclaimed, "We did it mama!" after winning the trophy. Elba told Ripa and guest-host Randy Jackson that after his first nomination, his daughter gave him a homemade consolation-prize statue to make him feel better about not taking home the real award.

"So this year, I said, 'Allright, listen, I've been nominated again, so I'll swap: I'll give you the new one for that one," Elba told his daughter. After the win, he put the statue on his windowsill at home, but said he hasn't seen it since. Maybe he should check in his daughter's room.

I went to read this article and this video started automatically and would not turn off. This is not good. I had to close the link to turn the ad off or wait for the video. I like to read before opening a video - it must be voluntary. Not fair.
