Man Steals Rolex Watch From Passenger At TSA's Airport Security Checkpoint (WATCH)

First Posted: 02/14/2012 11:48 am Updated: 02/14/2012 2:53 pm

Transportation Security Administration cameras caught a man stealing a Rolex from the passenger in front of him in line at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport's Terminal 3 checkpoint.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives say that on January 18, Gloria de Regalado realized she left her $6,500 wristwatch in the gray security bin 30 minutes after passing through the security checkpoint.

She went back to look for it, but the watch was gone.

Surveillance video (above) shows that the man behind her in line finished putting on his shoes, collected his belongings, noticed the two-toned watch, and looked around before grabbing it.

The video shows him walking away and putting his laptop and Regalado's Rolex into his backpack.

A TSA supervisor who reviewed the video notified BSO, who immediately searched the terminal for the man.

Authorities even notified Dallas officials to check a flight that recently departed for that city. The suspect was not on that flight or found within the terminal.

Detectives hope that someone will recognize the suspect and call in a tip to BSO airport detectives at 954-359-1201 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477 or www.browardcrimestoppers.org. There is a $1,000 reward for his arrest.

They'll find him, cameras are everywhere in public now, everyone should pretty much realize that.

This is why it is a good idea to count the items you place on the belt, and when done with security, to take the empty bin and return it to the stack.

another example of how stupid all the stripping down is....agents should make sure you get your stuff back when they make you remove it.

There job is to get us on the plane with out a risk of anything detonating or being used as a weapon. It is your job to keep up with your belongings. You don't expect the dr or medical technicians to keep track of your stuff when you go in for a checkup. You are only going to be at the screening area for a few minutes you should remember what you have or check your bins to make sure they are empty.

I'm amazed at some of the comments left below. I for one, do not own a Rolex but if I could afford one and wanted to purchase one, that would be nobody's business but my own. How can people say she was "flaunting" it? Is a watch not meant to be worn? It does not matter how "It Would Pay For Food for a Year or Someones rent or Mortgage for a Year" as someone here stated. If you feel that passionate about it, you pay it. It is her money and she is to do with it what she see's fit. Bottom line of this story is that some pathetic individual took what was not rightfully his. People worry about what you have, not what others do. You will be a much less bitter person and a much happier one as well.

It is not the value of the item that matters! It is not the fact that the person loosing it was careless. It is the fact that there are few honest people left as many comments show below. Sad... so sad :(

Yes, the person that took it knew it wasn't his, that's all that really matters.

Where is our faith?? I am positive the man merely intended to hand it over to the Lost and Found.
Additionally, those Florida underworked homeland security forces were probably on a break and didn't notice anything! In Dallas too! Where is our compassion and understanding???

You make great assumptions with little factual knowledge.
Maybe she had inherited the watch from her dead grandmother, who had been a lifelong international volunteer and had recieved the watch as a gift for her lifetime of dedication to humanity.

"I guess she'll think Next time thinking she's Better then others who have lot less", despite all the spelling and grammar errors in your writing you made one thing clear, this woman probably is better than you.

Hey you gotta be careful. It's very easy to leave something behind as I always feel rushed. I dont fly with valuable jewelry for this specific reason.

I saw this on the news this morning and could not believe my eyes. I guess I still think most people will be honest. I hope they catch this guy. I know a Rolex is a nice watch and I will probably never own one but it is just a watch. It's not worth all the legal issues and trouble this guy is going to have to deal with if he is caught. It's been a while since I flew but I thought they checked your boarding pass to go through the check point. Maybe they need to record names so that tracking people down is easier. They can be detained on the plane before take off or after landing and be arrested. Just a thought.

He is definitely caught! too bad I don't know him..... 'cause i would be calling the police right now!
--
Of course, I still have the question - Why did it take the female 30 minutes to realize she didn't have her Rolex?
--Unless she is so use to having that much $$, it doesn't mean as much to her as it would for most of us.....
