Michael Bay Signs On For 'Transformers 4,' Calls It A 'Reboot'

Michael Bay

Ain't It Cool News reports that Michael Bay has confirmed that he will, in fact, be returning to direct "Transformers 4," the next film in the "Transformers" franchise. The only twist? They're calling this one a "reboot."

Because though this next film will continue where the third film left off, plot-wise, there will be an entirely new cast! That could mean no Shia, no Megan, no John Turturro, no anybody!

That seems odd, doesn't it? That Bay would be unsatisfied with something that was working out pretty well. It's almost like he had everything he could want -- a huge budget, talent, swarms of adoring fans -- yet he just couldn't find a way to be content. I mean, why keep going if you're just going to ditch the essence, the real nucleus, of the franchise? Doesn't that just totally change it and deprive it of what made it special in the first place?

Only time will tell. For now, we can only wait with bated breath for this new film to seem appealing at first glance, but then completely disappoint us in every way over time.

A NOTE FROM HUFFPOST VALENTINE'S DAY EDITORS LINDSAY AND TODD, WHO BROKE UP THIS MORNING: We're not letting today's personal issues affect the quality content we bring you every Valentine's Day! Still, if you want to know exactly how Todd Lindsay messed up, we are keeping a liveblog.

I can't understand why people continue to support these films. Each one was been cinema of the lowest order, the action is poorly edited, the effects are an indistinguishable mass of churning gears, the humor is insulting, the plots incomprehensible, the characterization is non-existent and they are all an hour too long. Call me a hater bu these movies are terrible, and yes I am including the last 40 mins of the TF3 in that statement. In conclusion a continuation of the series without all the main characters but bring back the same film-maker is not a reboot it's a sequel.

Sorry for the rant but damn I hate these movies!

The only one I've tried to watch was the second one. I had to turn my back to much of it. Trying to empathize with machines was painful. An aggressive onslaught. The first movie I turned off before it was over, since Howard the Duck.

at least Spielberg and Cameron do new movies. Bay and Lucas keep doing the same story over and over... its okay. Gotta keep his efx company and mortgage paid.

I think the idea of a reboot is PERFECT. How many times can we really see Shia dodge 20 ton robots in the hopes of saving some broad that's way out of his league? I would sincerely hope they continue on the more Transformer heavy, battle scene and story approach they took in the 3rd movie. Either way, I will be there opening night with my $30 in hand!!

By reboot, does he mean he's going to actually make a good transformers movie?

I don't care who is in the cast as long as Ultra Magnus, Cyclonus and Unicron is in next one.

I wanted to read the story, but the screen was to shaky and kept zooming in and too fast for me to read anything.

The 'reboot' better mean making optimus prime look like Optimus Prime!!!! This is my childhood he's messing with here.

The nucleus of Transformers are the f-in Transformers. Shia the Beef and Blonde-hair-big-lips just got in the way anyway.
