'Pawn Stars': Footage Of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/14/2012 7:28 am Updated: 02/14/2012 7:56 am

Not much celluloid footage of President Franklin D. Roosevelt exists because of the fact that his use of a wheelchair was hidden from the public during his lifetime.

So when a woman approached them with what she said was previously unseeen celluloid footage of the 32nd President, the "Pawn Stars" (Mon., 10 p.m. EST on History) were both wary and excited.

Could this reel of film be a goldmine? Handing over the tin the owner confessed that she didn't know exactly what was on the reel as she'd never watched it.

Luckily The Old Man and Corey had an 8 mm projector, so they called in an expert to authenticate the footage.

His verdict? "This is not original footage." While captivating, what it looked like was a mixture of campaign footage and a biopic. To the obvious disappointment of the seller, it was "pretty much all stock commercial footage" and therefore not valuable.

"Pawn Stars" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on History.

The headline doesn't match the show. It was stated as not being rare, not a fake. I felt sorry for the lady who thought she had something of value.

But it wasn't fake.

I SAW THAT SHOW, THE ITEM WAS NOT FAKE; BUT A STANDARD STOCK FILM, LIKE YOU WOULD GET IF YOU BOUGHT THE SAME THING ON A DVD TODAY. AS USUAL HUFF-POST GOES FOR THE FAKE HEADLINE.

The whole show is a sham and in the few items that are real theyre using their celeb status to scam their sellers. Theyre fakers or crooks.

I can understand some of the items in the show Pawn Stars are Historical, but the show itself is not...why does the History (Channel) keep putting reality shows like this on the air.... i mean, swamp people, hairy bikers, swamp loggers, ancient aliens and moster quest psudo-science stuff etc... what does this have anything to do with history?

I agree with you but I am sure you already know the answer. Its all about money

A fake? Accordingly....the lady said that she had never seen the film and that she had more or less inherited from a relative. She was more than interested in having an expert evaluate the film....and the film turned out to be a generic version of FDR....so how was it a fake? Watching Pawn Stars is a fake, of and in itself.

I love Pawn Stars but Rick should have know it was fake when he saw Roosevelt in that Hoveround scooter..

I want to see a cage fight between the owners of Cajun Pawn Stars and the owners of Hardcore Pawn.

I cannot agree with ALL the comments on here..I think the father worked hard in the past to establish the pawn shop, whereas the son Rick would really like the world to think that he is super knowledgeable..We do not see the preproduction footage and all investigating he does before the shoot,so who knows..The other son "big Hoss" is a disgrace and he really looks like with his weight that he is not going to be around for too long, plus his apperance overall with his tattoo's and his attitude is the worst.. Chumlee is just a buffoon for everybody to play off,and he really needs to do something about his weight and apperance also...NASTY..I would dearly like to know if these people taking these items to the pawn stars are just a pre-picked setup for the show's ratings..

Thats what all reality shows do,they only show what will help ratings, the bad part is though alot of people think its really like that

Did anyone else notice the same cr_p they "find" in storage wars seems to find its way to this show...and then to the Antiques Roadshow???hhmmnnnnn

I love watching Pawn Stars. I think Rick has a great laugh. If you don't take this show too seriously and just watch it as entertainment, it's as good or better than a lot of the other television shows on the air. As they say, everyone has their likes and dislikes. And I like this show.

I like Hardcore Pawn on True TV, except for the owners whiny grownup children the show has some funny stuff. Pawn Stars is better though.

I've seen one episode and I was disgusted. "Hardcore Pawn" exploits the sad conditions of street people, addicts, and the poor.

Love the show, cruisegal48, and I don't take it seriously - like all other so-called reality shows, it's entertainment. But when the experts are called in we can learn a little something along the way, too. And I agree with you about Rick's laugh. BTW - the experts are called in to make this show more interesting and they are called in only when filming. For day-to-day operations of this or any other pawn shop, there are no experts on call. Honest!
