Taylor Swift 'Hunger Games' Video: 'Safe & Sound' Clip Debuts (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/14/2012 8:40 am Updated: 02/14/2012 8:40 am

Taylor Swift isn't Katniss Everdeen, but she plays her on TV and the Internet. After performing at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night with a wardrobe and hairstyle that seemed very District 12-y, Swift has taken her Katniss love to the next level in the new video for "Safe & Sound," her lead track off the "Hunger Games" companion album.

Dressed in plain clothes and walking through a dystopian (and burning; thanks FX budget!) landscape, Swift sings the mournful tune with the help of The Civil Wars. The whole thing looks like "Cold Mountain" by way of "Children of Men," which is kinda awesome. More awesome? When Swift finds a Mockingjay pin of her very own.

Great, If I have to listen to Taylor Swift, I won't be going to see Hunger Games.

I think the girl should just write songs and then have someone else sing them.... She can't sing, she
s overrated but it appears the little kids like her and the promoters love her. It's called a "cash cow" for the record label and networks or guaranteed money.

Taylor Swift is just another overrated artist! She is a horribe singer and how in the world did she even get popular in the first place? She writes so,so songs that some people may enjoy but she needs to expand her material and colleaberate with some more established artists/groups and get new ideas!

Maybe Taylor Swift writes catchy songs which some may like (not me) but she is a terrible singer & her voice is not suitable for vocals at all! Her popularity perplexes me!

The only comment I want to make about Taylor Swift is a plea for her to stop the ridiculous "OMG, I can't believe you are all applauding for little old me, I am completely astonished" act that she did yet again after her performance at the Grammys. Does she really think she is going to perform at the Grammys and no one is going to applaud afterwards? No need to stand there with her mouth open and look back at her band with a wide-eyed incredulous look and say "for me???" like this is the first performance she has ever given in her life in front of an audience. Give me a break. And thank goodness I didn't have to see her win any awards. She has been nominated (188) and winning awards (102) since 2007. Unless she is the dumbest person to ever walk the planet, she should know she has a pretty good chance of winning and that she can be a gracious and thankful winner without putting on an act of being shocked. She's 22 years old, it's been 5 years since she started raking in honors and awards, time to knock off the over-the-top fake and ridiculous act. It long ago ceased to be endearing.

I'm definitely not in Taylor's demographic, but I've heard lots of artists that I liked who weren't trying to appeal to me. But I swear I don't get her appeal at all. Her lyrics sound like someone took their diary and just started singing it. I think she's a really terrible songwriter and a mediocre singer, and I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm just confused by her incredibly ginormous success. Lots of singers write about the same subjects in a much more compelling way and go nowhere. I'm happy for her of course, she seems like a really sweet girl, but it's very puzzling to me why she's so successful.

I like to hear lyrics that seem like "someone took their diary and just started singing it".

Isn't what is written a diary that human's true experience?

If one human had particular thoughts or experiences, isn't it likely that another human had those thoughts or experiences too?

Does everything have to be hipsterised, overwrought and overthought?

Is truth not enough? Does it have to be TRULY TRUE TRUTH TRUENESS to resonate with me or you or our fellow humankind?

It would remind one of "Cold Mountain." It's lovely, as is Taylor, and a solid role model to so many young girls.

she actually look normal in those clothes

I give her credit for being a very established songwriter but I can't stand her voice. Very bad tonality :/

It's a 6-string banjitar, so won't make the expected bluegrass noises.

I just never saw her left hand moving on the neck. Maybe I just missed it or don't understand how that instrument is played.

What do you mean by "even with her Ms. Surprise look all the time"?
Are you suggesting that being gracious enough not to expect to win is a bad quality?
02:01 PM on 02/14/2012
I am surprised there arent more haters on here there usually is when Taylor is involved!!! According to some if you are out of your teens you should be committed if you like Taylor Swift I guess thats me then have the straight jackets come!!! Cause I think she is great. She is Hot though which doesnt hurt either!!!
02:58 PM on 02/14/2012
I call the older committed, "late bloomers" or "in the closet" fans. At a record store in 2010, I asked two ladies in their 50's if they knew what Taylor Swift's new album was called. The three teens with them had no idea. The two older ladies said simultaneously, "Speak Now". Usually the haters are just jealious teens. Mature adults know better. Swift is very well liked & gifted. Afterall, those millions of dollars to support her did not come from piggy banks.

I can't hear anything over her dashing good looks, perfect plump lips, long curly blond hair and bone skinny body. She must be a 'talented' singer....
