Valentine's Day Google Logo Celebrates Love Of All Kinds (VIDEO)

Google Doodle

Google is doodling again, this time in honor of Valentine's Day.

Visit the search engine's homepage this February 14, and you'll stumble upon more than just a simple illustration. Today's Google Doodle is a full-blown, minute-long animation that ranks up there with some of Google's most creative -- quite a feat, considering other doodles released in the recent past.

According to TechCrunch, the Valentine's Day logo is thanks in part to Michael Lipman, the doodle's animator. Lipman had only three weeks to complete it, as opposed to the nine or 10 weeks it would normally take. However, he somehow managed to pull it off.

"When Google calls and says, 'Drop everything, we want you to create something that's going to be seen by hundreds of millions of people,' you heed that call," Lipman told TechCrunch.

The result of his speedy and valiant efforts is a cute doodle devoid of dialogue. But what it lacks in words, it makes up for with Tony Bennett's rendition of Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart" and an adorable storyline featuring a lovesick boy striving to win the heart of an apathetic, jump-roping girl. (“That was every girl I met up until college ... ,” said Lipman, according to The Washington Post.) The protagonist desperately queries Google for ideas that might impress the girl, but a rose, a box of chocolates, a sweater, a balloon animal, and a handful of other offerings don't seem to capture the girl's attention. It isn't until the boy gives up on the gifts and jump-ropes next to her that she finally stops and notices him for the first time, and together they jump-rope until the video's end, when the frame is filled with snapshots of unlikely love stories (a dog and a cat, a princess and a frog, an alien and an astronaut and more). This short and sweet story seems to be an admission from Google that even it can't find the right answers when it comes to love.

On January 18, 2012, Google joined Wikipedia, Reddit and thousands of other sites for a content blackout in protest of proposed Congressional legislation calling for strict enforcement of U.S. copyright law online. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) drew the ire of web users who feared these bills would lead to unchecked web censorship. As a result of the massive protest, key Congressmen who had previously supported the bills reversed their positions; SOPA and PIPA were tabled indefinitely.

I don't care if it is, but if so, it's subtle.
