John Goodman Talks About Working With Roseanne Again On 'Downwardly Mobile' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/15/2012 3:56 am Updated: 02/15/2012 10:11 am

Tuesday night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (weeknights, 12 a.m. EST on ABC) John Goodman talked about working with his old sitcom friend and co-star Roseanne Barr again. News broke last week that he was in talks to join her on a new NBC comedy pilot "Downwardly Mobile" and this conversation certainly made it sound like a done deal. In the series, Barr is set to play the owner of a trailer park, while Goodman is the handyman. But are their characters married, as they were on "Roseanne" from 1998 to 1997?

"No, not yet," Goodman said. "Who knows what'll happen over the years." Of course, the show has to become a hit for NBC like "Roseanne" was for ABC in order for it to even make it years.

"I guess you figured out how to really get along with Roseanne," Kimmel quipped, after describing Barr as crazy.

"We're all crazy in one way or another. But the people love the crazy folks," Goodman laughed.

America certainly does have a penchant for wild personalities on our television screens, but is America ready for Roseanne Barr and John Goodman together again? The nation seems to have embraced Tim Allen's return to television on "Last Man Standing," so why not America's favorite working class couple?

"Downwardly Mobile" is being looked at by NBC for the next fall season. "Jimmy Kimmel Live" airs weeknights at 12 a.m. EST on ABC.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.

I would watch it in a heartbeat. Roseanne Barr is the only truly honest artist in Hollywood - her Roseanne's Nuts show was hilarious. I like her because she is herself and she doesn't care who likes it or dislikes it. I wish she were my sister. The Roseanne show could have gone on forever. The kids would be parents, she and Dan'd be grandparents and it would still be hilarious. Jackie'd be obsessing over Andy. Grandma would be driving them all nuts. They were like a real family - warts and all. She and John Goodman were believable together as a couple. I'm already a fan!

I liked him in "Roseanne" but he has been to the Kentucky Derby and has been really rude. I heard he is a jerk in real life. Nice that Roseanne is ressurecting his career. He has not had one since the demise of the show.

What a refreshingly good idea. They had a great show until Tom Arnold got into the mix. I think it would be a great show

I remember Al Pacino and John Goodman sitting in a squad room talking about the case they were working on when J.G. stood up and sang Sea of Love. That was really great. Ellen Barkin was in the Movie I just can't remember the name of the movie. I would like to see J.G. working like that again. Not in trailer shows.

It all hinges on the writers. Most of these comedies are mindless slapstick with a laughtrack. Rosanne was different. It had good writing and good actors. Downwardly Mobile will have the same actors, but will the writers be up to the task?

Wow - I hope this is true. I love Roseanne and John. I don't watch weekly tv shows anymore, since LOST went off the air. I am trying to get into Alcatraz. But, I sure would watch Downward Mobile if it was on.

When I am especially down-in-the-dumps, I record all the Roseannes and FF through the commercials. If I watch two or three episodes in a row, I start to laugh. I record them until they get to the year when they won the lottery, which I don't record, then start over. Roseanne is like I Love Lucy - even though I know the dialogue, I STILL like to watch the shows over and over. I never get tired of them.

What is needed is a comedy about the downwardly mobile middle class. It's familiar and relevant today as anything is going to get. Just take it easy on the politics. Nahhh, not going to happen.

Think I'll go look for that imaginary book "Retirement for the Minimum Wager in Twenty Nine Years" and read untill J.G. finds something good to play.
