Kremlin Award Vodka, Official Brand Of Russia Government

Kremlin Vodka

First Posted: 02/15/2012 1:33 pm Updated: 02/15/2012 1:57 pm

In the heat of vetoing a UN resolution on Syria, bracing against anti-Putin protests, and dealing with news that a Russian submarine carrying nuclear warheads burst into flames, Russia is taking on its greatest challenge yet:

The premium vodka market.

RIA Novosti reports that the Russian government has launched its own brand of vodka, to be served at official events. According to Bloomberg, the Kremlin has already registered six trademarks, including Kremlin Vodka, Kremlin Beer and Kremlin Lemonade, with the idea of raising revenues through name licensing and beverage sales.

The vodka is already being served at official events, a government spokesperson told RIA Novosti, though plans for availability outside the administration were not given. The New York Post reports that one online retailer was already selling the government booze, however, at the reasonable cost of 792 rubles, or $26.

The government's vodka line comes despite reports on Russia's disturbing rates of alcoholism. President Dmitry Medvedev had previously expressed shock at Russians' average vodka consumption -- a staggering 18 liters per person a year, according to official data.

18 liters of vodka a year per person doesn't sound bad. That's 18 nights out.

18 liters a year average..... a liter is close enough to a quart for comparison, so that means 4 and 1/2 GALLONS of vodka per person per year in Russia. 'Course it's so cold there you probably need a hairy chest.

I don't think that is so much.

Till you consider, not everyone drinks.

I would like these numbers to reflect average drinkers in that country.

Really, does he fight them by locking them up in jail when they cross him?

Or is ruling the country as a dictator an tyrant make him a fighter for the working man.

You keep trying to make Russia into france, also I would venture people who would love the vodka are the minorities of russia who face daily persecution.

The Russian people have had a taste of Western-style plutocracy (Capitalist version of "Democracy").

The aftertaste is so bad, they need that much vodka to get rid of it.

Yea Russia, a total socialist paradise???

If it comes to being clear with the world about a nuclear disaster be it a nuclear sub, or Chernobyl annihilating our planet.

It's not Socialist. It's Capitalist, just like us only Putin is trying to keep the Russian people so that Russia doesn't wind up a plutocratic sh|thole like the U.S.

Who could blame him?

Amazing how the media has to find a way to put down Russia. They vetoed a UN resolution, something the U.S. has done over 80 times. More times than all the other members combined. Talk about the Vodka already.

18 LITRES per year, not liters.

I can't say I notice any difference between vodkas once they get to a decent quality.

The opiates of the masses vary according to political supply. In the US it's the media, the propaganda machine, endless bombardment by each website and station and blog with it's own agendas. In Russia it's vodka. God knows what's used to calm the restless hordes in other countries -- food, religion, repression. Opiates of the masses are interchangeable...

For seventy years they insulted us as capitalists - now they outdo us.

It's no secret that the Russian's like their Vodka, as their livers rot so does there soul's! Is it possible they were intoxicated when they vetoed the U.N. resolution on Syria?
