It was widely reported and widely known that Peyton Manning has undergone three neck surgeries in the past two years.

Now, Don Banks of SI.com reports that the Indianapolis Colts quarterback actually had a fourth operation on his neck.

Banks said the exact date of the newly surfaced surgery is not known, but it occurred sometime between a May procedure in Chicago and the latest one he had in September.

Banks went on to say that Manning could potentially be developing bone spurs in the area where the last procedure was performed and that at some point in the future, even if he is able to play in 2012, the possibility exists that Manning might need another procedure.

All this further clouds the future of one of the greatest quarterbacks of a generation and continues the haziness as the clock ticks toward March 8, when Manning's $28 million roster bonus is due.
