Rick Santorum Endorsed By Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine

Rick Santorum Dave Mustaine

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has picked up a campaign endorsement from Megadeth's Dave Mustaine.

The heavy metal band's leader told MusicRadar.com what he thought about each of the four Republican presidential candidates:

“... You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House... and that it's Rick Santorum."

Weighing in on the rest of the field, Mustaine called Newt Gingrich an “angry little man” and said Ron Paul will “make total sense for a while, and then he'll say something so way out that it negates everything else.”

As for Mitt Romney, the rocker said, “I've got to tell you, I was floored the other day to see that Mitt Romney's five boys have a $100 million trust fund. Where does a guy make that much money? So there's some questions there.”

Still, Mustaine would pick any of the GOP candidates over President Barack Obama.

This isn't Mustaine's first foray into presidential politics.

According to his record label Road Runner Records, Mustaine gave an interview to Pit Magazine in October 2004, in which he said, "[John] Kerry is a mistake. He will ruin our country."

Mustaine didn't return a request for comment.

Dave Mustaine endoreses Santorum? Oh, wow, I mean, I will just have to change my vote now. If an intellectual titan like Dave thinks man-on-dog Rick is the smartest candidate around, it must be true.

Dave can play the guitar like no other. He's truly amazing. He plays with speed, complexity and accuracy like no one else in a genre filled with skilled guitar players. His life is also an incredible rags to riches story, unlike many of those in the music business. He has overcome so much, from his firing from metallica to his heroin addiction. Unfortunately, I doubt he has anything more than an 8th grade education and when he talks, it sounds like the words of an uneducated street kid. As much as I admire the man, I think you'd have to be as dumb as a doorknob to endorse Santorum, so I have to conclude that he is that dumb. Sorry, Dave.

I agree with you, but not on him being an amazing guitar player.

If I thought for one second Dave's sobriety would lead to this, I would have sent him a box of needles.

I've always liked megadeth, but dave mustaine is an idiot. His entire musical career has been based off of the politically charged, anti-establishment, anti-capitalism, and more importantly anti-war messages in his music. Now he wants to endorse a candidate who thinks obama is too soft on iran, despite obama saying all options are on the table? Just like iraq, the pentagon doesn't even believe that iran is capable (nor will be in the near future) of enriching uranium to the point of using it in weapons. Dave Mustaine wants a moment in the sun, great guitarist, great musician, I used to believe he was a thinker, now I realize he's just another american who wants a shot at glory and money. Crying in "Some Kind of Monster?" Come on man, grow up. Dave Mustaine is fuelled by hate and revenge, and no person should believe these are positive qualities.

Looks like some one wants some Fox news guest appearance time like washed up Ted Nugent. Sales must be lagging on their latest CD. I'm sure some people out there think Dave's political lyrics were impressive but if you want something with a little more intelligence I would suggest Queensryche's Operation Mind Crime. Probably one of the best concept albums ever made. Worth a listen. If you are some one that doesn't like metal I might suggest just reading the lyrics.

Stick to the music Dave, that's all we're interested in hearing from you.

Santorum is completely irrelevant. The fact that he is back in the race just shows how powerful the media is. It is completely clear the media is obsessed with this being a two man race, as long as one of the two men aren't Ron Paul. We as Americans should be completely ashamed of this dog and pony show. To point the finger only at the GOP is ridiculous. Our system as a whole is so corrupt it's not even funny.

I could not in good conscience vote for anyone other than RON PAUL

Why do all fans of Ron Paul insist on spelling his name in all caps? Has he officially changed his name to "RON PAUL"?

It's a shame I don't have my Rust in Peace CD anymore. Now I don't have anything to throw out.

There is a reason why Metallica got rid of Mustaine - he was, and still is nuts!

I'm not sure which is funnier. Dave Mustaine's illogical backing of a candidate who would do everything in his power to see to it that Megadeth's music could never be heard, or the Megadeth fans on here trying to convince everyone that Megadeth is, or ever was relevant.

So now Mustaine wants to fail politically, as well as musically. 0-2 Dave.
