Pity there was no mention of the infamous scoring card the Chronicle kept in the early days of TALES and Maupin's classic response about the dog. :-)

Like many other people back then, I knew Armi in our days in SF. Great guy. Great party giver. Incomprehensibly talented. And so very glad he decided to return to finish the Tales.

As Armi tells it: early in the run, the Chronicle was wary of the whole gay aspect and, without telling him, kept this large score card to make sure the number of gay and straight encounters balanced out. When he found out about this, he wrote an episode involving one of the characters and a family dog, then sent it in with the note, "So which side of the card are you putting this on?" It was immediately pulled and never mentioned again.
