Cindy Crawford Wants To Halt Daughter Kaia Gerber's Modeling Career (PHOTOS)

Famous supermodel Cindy Crawford has a daughter who's following in her footsteps: 10-year-old Kaia Gerber just starred in a campaign with Young Versace, the children's line produced by the famous Italian fashion house.

But wait: this might be Kaia's last modeling gig for awhile. In a new interview with the Daily Front Row, Cindy says she's putting the kibosh on Kaia's nascent modeling career:

At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl. But if she’s 17 and wants to try it…of course, what can I say? She’s really into singing and acting. She kind of jokingly said—I’m not even sure if it was jokingly—‘I might model first because you don’t have to know how to do anything, but then I want to be a baby nurse.’


Encouraging your kids to be well-rounded? We'll give that a thumbs-up. Cindy also says she wants firmly to avoid becoming a dreaded 'stage mom':

I didn’t want to be a stage mom and make her nervous. She knew I was there looking out for her. She’s done little modeling things with me, but it was always with me, and this was just her. And I really wanted her to have that experience.


Kaia's first Versace ad received a bit of criticism for the clothing choices; the 10-year-old wore a skirt that some deemed too short.

But it sounds like Cindy's steering her daughter in the right direction, especially as new controversy emerges over the use of underage runway models during New York Fashion Week.

Yeah, I think the skirt is a tad too short for a 10 year old model. I realize you see more at the beach, and I'm not a prude...my daughters only wore bikinis as swimwear since they were 5 or 6... but the suggestion in this photo is what makes it less approrpiate.

She's "halting" her daughter's modeling career? That makes it sound like her daughter initiated it in the first place, which I sincerely doubt was the case.

Either way, I'm certain once she saw the photos...and being a model herself she understands the industry...she decided "uh-uh...we aren't going there at 10, no way."

Whatever the case, good for her. It's her kid. Too many parents let the kids decide...then they turn out to be Lindsay Lohan.

The kid is a cute kid, but I don't see any compelling reason to drag it into modelling in the first place.

Good idea. I'm thinking Polly Klaas here at the moment. She too did some local modeling that might have got the attention of a rapist. It is never good to dress up our children as little adults and so dangerous to put them out there in public like that. It is more about what they want her to sell than what she is doing as far as I am concerned. If the parents is seen as the person that is objecting to a dressers choices it is too easy for the child to see the parent as the oppressor and bring in conflicts that don't have to be at that age. It only gets harder to fight as kids get older unfortunately. Better to not set yourself up for any of that until you really have to take all of that on when they become teenagers.
