Donald Trump Doesn't Get Rick Santorum Surge

First Posted: 02/16/2012 10:10 am Updated: 02/16/2012 10:10 am

Donald Trump continued to stump for Mitt Romney Thursday morning on 'Today,' attacking Santorum for his devastating 2006 Senate reelection race.

"He lost his election in Pennsylvania running as a sitting senator -- by 19 points," Trump said, according to the National Journal. "So the people that knew him best turned him out and let him go locally."

After Trump endorsed Romney earlier this month, Santorum reacted with sarcasm.

"I can't imagine Donald Trump being hypocritical," he said. "That would be totally out of character for Donald Trump."

Trump has previously managed his expectations for a Romney victory, and he said on 'Today' that he's confused why Romney's not "catching on."

"I don’t get it," he said. "I don’t see why he's not catching on better."

Recent polls show Romney and Santorum neck and neck, though that may change after the Michigan and Arizona primaries on February 28.

It is simple Trump...Rebuplicans are jealous of him...and the left knows that Santorum has a less chance of beating Obama....this is all that this is about. Oh and by the way...I agree with you. Santorum truly is an Washington insider...no matter what he tries to depict.

GO ROMNEY!!!!!

Lol, that was awesome Mr. Santorum! Did you take the opportunity to tell Trump thank you for supporting Mitt Romney that resulted in your surge over Romney?

You nailed it...After Trump's endorsement, Romney lost the next 3 primaries and odds are that he will lose the next two as well.

So what is it that you don't understand about your kiss of death, Mr. Trump?

There are so many things Trump doesn't get, where to begin? My question is why does media follow and publish anything about him. He is a completely unimportant, not particularly interesting or informed private citizen who hosts a reality game show.

I think he pays the media for this. I can't think of any other reason they would cover him.

That's the physical property of Santorum. Like the way fire is hot and ice is cold, Santorum surges and spreads.

It's not that tough to understand. Michiganders are pissed with Mitt because he wanted to throw GM and Crysler under the bus and let them die.

Santorum may not get the nomination, but so far he's is quite successful at blocking Mitt.

I don't get it either, Donald, but then I never got it why anyone took you seriously about politics. Stick to what you know best - reality TV.

Because there is some good TV. Reality TV is entirely faked.

Hey Donald, why haven't we heard any more about those investigators you sent to Hawaii to check on President Obama's birth certificate? Did you lie to us Donald?

Romney had to make a point of coming through the state one last time and tweaking us about how the federal government should have let the auto companies die. Not too smart. he might as well have drew a target on his back. And this from a guy who inherited his money from his dad who ran one of the Big Four.

In related news: That thing on Trumps head head jumped out of a hole 2 weeks late and predicted another six weeks of winter.

Proves that Trumps endorsement was worthless. Santorum beating Romney in Michigan, priceless.

Not a big Trump fan but he is right about one thing. The people who know Santorum best (the people from his area and I'm one of them) threw him out in a landslide. It must say something.

Agreed. He acted like us folks in eartern PA didn't even exist. He was one part arrogant and two parts stupid. It would be a mild shocker if he wins PA.

Trump still kissing up to Mitt for a chance at the number two spot of the ticket.

I don't think its even that. Remember Romney was of the group that didn't climb the tower to kiss the Don's ring and seek his blessings. I think the Don is in fear...great fear, that his own words may come backto bite him in his A$$, regarding him entering the race as an independent if the repubs don't nominate whom he thinks they should. We know the Don will never run, because of the vetting he would get and all the dirty laundry on the Don will get real air time. Even the squirrel on his head is shaking over that prospect. Come on Don, entering the race...."make my day".
