Grant is a pretty great guy, and Max is clearly pretty luck to have him. But on this week's "Happy Endings" (Wed., 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC), he was worried about him spending time with the gang because they tend to not like anyone outside the group. But he needn't have worried. When they finally met Grant, it turned out that everybody liked him.
In fact, they liked him too much. The bulk of the episode had everybody competing over who could be best friends with Grant. Well, almost everybody. Rather than fall head over heels in "like" with Grant, Dave became incredibly jealous of him. He thought he was the cool one in the gang, but they thought Grant was their best candidate for that slot. So Dave tried to be "cool," only he wasn't all that hip on how to do it.
Ironically, Grant was the only one who thought he was cool. He wanted to be able to "chillax" and wear sunglasses indoor with scarves like Dave. It turned out that while everyone was thinking that Grant was so perfect, it's only because he was trying so hard to impress them. He wanted them to like him on the one hand because they never liked anyone and on the other because he just wanted to be liked. His neediness was just the flaw Max needed to find, and just in time.
Grant cracked under the pressure and revealed his not-so-fatal flaw moments before Max was going to break up with him -- because he'd decided he wasn't good enough for the perfect Grant -- thus salvaging the relationship. So while the sheen of the gang's shiny new toy may have worn off, at least it means Max and Grant can continue being a couple for a while.
