Jason Segel Jokes, 'I'm The New George Clooney'

First Posted: 02/16/2012 4:36 pm Updated: 02/16/2012 5:38 pm

Jason Segel George Clooney

There's a new George Clooney in town. Move over, silver fox: Jason Segel is the now the guy with the golden ticket.

The "How I Met Your Mother" actor humbly told Vanity Fair that, besides a few minor qualities, he and Clooney are one and the same.

"With the exception that he’s way better looking and way more talented than me, I'm the new Clooney," Segel joked.

But Segel may be on to something.

Just as Clooney boasts an impressive list of exes, Segel has been linked to beauties like Michelle Trachtenberg and Chloe Sevigny. Segel's 2011 box-office baby, "The Muppets," has earned a whopping $87 million since its November release, while Clooney's similarly timed Oscar darling, "The Descendants," has earned (only!) $71 million.

Click over to Vanity Fair for more with Segel.

But tipping the "Hollywood's handsomest" scale in Segel's favor, the funny man's self-deprecating charm wins us over every time.

I realize that Segel was just joking, but some of you are taking thisWAY too seriously. George Clooney is an actor. Jason Segel cannot act. He seems like a good guy to hang around with, but I think he's just awful at acting. And singing. Why do people continue to let this guy sing?

"Segel's 2011 box-office baby, "The Muppets," has earned a whopping $87 million"

It ain't because of him. Amy Adams - yes. Muppets - yes. Him - no.

In his dreams. He's going to have to write and direct some award filming films (not starring the Muppets) and do a massive amount of humanitarian work to even be in the same league as G.

Speaking of humanitarian work, he can seek inspiration from the great work that George and other Oscar nominees are doing in Sudan (http://www.africa.com/blog/blog,the_oscars_and_africa_celebrities_involved_in_the_continent,557.html) and elsewhere in Africa.

Who is Goerge Clooney? Get me Goerge Clooney. Get me some one like George Clooney. Who is Goerge Clooney?

The four phases of an actors career. I believe Slim Pickens or Ben Johnson said that. have a great weekend

I'd rather watch Jason Segel and George Clooney anyday. Nothing to do with looks, just find George Clooney very boring and Jason Segel very funny

Jason Segel is one of those many "actors" who just acts like himself in every TV show and movie he's in, like Ashton Kutcher. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him act in the classical sense. Clooney has class and he has range as an actor, definitely in a class by himself.

The new George Clooney is Joshua Jackson. Watch him in Fringe. He reminds me SO much of young George Clooney in ER.

Eh, I don't think the new Clooney has to "like" him more so have that same presence, but I get what you're saying... My vote, is Chris Pine (New Captain Kirk), Sam Worthington (Terminator 3, Avatar) or Sam Rockwell (Moon)... I think these are the most likely of the current generation of mail actors to make it big in Hollywood.

Of course, I'm only half way through my first cup of coffee, soooooo, I could have missed someone.
