Man Charged For Allegedly Cooking And Eating Cats: Jason Louis Wilmert Arrested In California

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In a case that has shocked even investigators, a California man is in jail for allegedly cooking and eating cats.

Jason Louis Wilmert is being held in the Kern County Jail on charges alleging animal cruelty and using a pet or domesticated animal for food. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Neighbors called sheriff's deputies when they heard cats wailing and screeching at the 36-year-old's house in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt says he has "never seen anything like this."

Pruitt says investigators found evidence that led them to believe "he had the intent to use a cat for food," but he couldn't comment directly on the evidence. The case has been sent to the district attorney.

Wilmert is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.

So why is it illegal to slaughter a cat and eat its meat, but legal to do the exact same thing to a cow, pig, chicken, turkey, etc.? Kind of a strange double-standard. If they think it's cruelty to animals to kill a cat to eat it for its meat, wouldn't the same logic apply to any other type of animal killed for meat? Conversely, if you consider it acceptable to kill various types of animals for their meat, why would there be an exception for cats? Cats are not an endangered species or anything, they are not the most intelligent species, and cats certainly kill many other types of creatures all the time (birds, mice, rabbits, squirrels, etc.) and show no remorse. This is clearly just a cultural bias in favor of considering cats, dogs, etc. as pet species that are supposed to be companions to people, differentiated from the "lower caste" species such as cows, chickens, and pigs that are used for meat. In some countries, eating cats is a routine practice, but eating cows or pigs is forbidden. It is all rather arbitrary. Anyway, cats eat humans if their human owners die, so this guy is just treating cats the same way cats treat any other species.

He got off with 3 years probation for the killing of the cats. There were other charges but they were dropped.

so if its cute and cuddly its off the menu? dont get me wrong im a cat lover... i have always shared my home with one... but that doesnt mean that i do not find it hypocritical that people can eat beef or chicken... and yet they balk at eating dog or cat... ive eaten both... and after having done so... have to say that i did not mind the experience. meat is meat... the source is less important then the protein.

TV Dinners! There's nothing much to eat.... ZZ TOP.......... Seriously, I've run out of food completely and this never occurred to me. Besides, in Suburban CO I'm seeing rabbits running around everywhere. They would be the first to go! They're safe from me these days since I've got plenty of grocery store food. Too bad it's not mushroom season. I'd be all over those! I have several guides. One wrong move and your life is over!

Me i wouldn't eat my family sorry and in a apocalyptic circumstances same thing my family is my animals to, be prepared and stock up, or just let it go.. people are getting crazier eating dogs, cats, horses, humans, so sick of people.
