New Mexico Lesbian Couple Arrested After Locking Themselves To One Another Inside Marriage License Bureau (VIDEO)

A New Mexico-based lesbian couple was arrested after they went to an unusual length as part of a same-sex marriage protest -- connecting themselves back-to-back with bicycle locks in two chairs inside a county clerk's office to block other couples from obtaining marriage licenses.

As ABQJournal is reporting, April Parker, 38, and Amanda Rich, 31, were part of a group of about 40 people protesting for marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

"I'm sorry, but until we can get a marriage license, no one else can get a marriage license today," the pair replied when they were asked to move from their position.

As the Associated Press noted, Parker and Rich were not taken to jail, but were eventually issued tickets for trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Last month, the debate over marriage equality in New Mexico began heating up when Republican state Rep. David Chavez proposed legislation that would not only amend the constitution to ban same-sex marriage, but also void recognition of marriages and civil unions from other states.
