Facebook Etiquette: 'Things I Really Wish I Could Write On Your Wall But Can't'

    First Posted: 02/18/2012 7:52 am   Updated: 02/18/2012 7:52 am

Although Facebook has dramatically changed the rules of social interactions, there are some things that are still not allowed. This includes writing certain comments on certain people’s walls. As much as I’d like to tell my crush how much I like him, that sort of thing has yet to be deemed socially acceptable (unfortunately). So, instead of writing these comments on my Facebook friends’ walls, I’m just going to post about it -- hopefully they don’t see this. Here’s what I would say if consequences and embarrassment didn’t exist…

Don't forget the kid who always has horrid grammar or the girl who has the duck face in every picture. And the one who shares their default like 50 times a day.

This was such a lame article. Seriously, if you don't like someone, just "hide" them or un-friend them. How hard is that? Remember, you CHOOSE to be their friend in the first place!

“The kid that always posts about politics”? Really? Facebook is a world of free expression - if you don't like hearing the kid's posts all the time, un-friend him! This is what we are complaining about? How about the kid who posts in ghetto language, or the kid who always complains, or the kid who constantly uploads 'new' pictures but are really the same picture but in different poses?

No Facebook, no twitter...and never owned a cellphone.

Having people follow me is just not my thing.

It's the unique way everyone uses FB that entertains me. I enjoy seeing everything my friends post. Even if it's silly or mundane, I like knowing that person is engaged enough to be posting silly stuff in the first place. If you're constantly annoyed by your newsfeed, then either clean it up by blocking posts from those that annoy you, or just leave FB. It is a social site, key term being social. People that complain too much about it should maybe consider that perhaps they just aren't social beings who enjoy it. And that's ok.

What the kids of this generation fail to realize is that the people from our generation are the ones that pioneered things like the cell phone, the computer, etc. What developments are they working on to contribute for the next generation? When a child tells me I have no business being on FB I just look at them and smile

I break stereotypes left and right.

I would have to add two more to the list. First, the people who always complain about they're life. Second, the people like "Oh I have the best man/girl in the world I'm so lucky. Love you (name)", and spam it on a constant daily basis.

YES this is a FREE Country--Still Under the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America!, Facebook is for everyone, All ages (No body is too old!). Allows others to keep in touch with friends, families, new acquaintences. It should not be abused or used to hurt, alienate, or slander others. However, it should be a universal right to express your feelings here on any topic you feel open about. Its a very helpful aid to children and an awesome social tool for adults all over world. Keeps comunication lines open.

Besides I don't understand, why the author should complain so much, when you can regulate what you receive and how much of it is displayed on the Facebook news feed.

#1 pet peeve: People taking pictures of themselves in the mirror.
09:34 PM on 02/20/2012
mine biggest pet peeve is the girls with their head tilted, butt pushed out and making their kissy faces. i think if you going to take a picture do it anywhere but the bathroom, to me if you do i think you spend more time in the bathroom than outside or where ever. you might as well say your bathroom is your bedroom if your going to spend who knows how long in the bathroom taking pictures. i also don't know why so many people are addicted to face book and twitter, im 17 and i rarely go on facebook, i dont have a twitter account, and dont have a phone. there is no point in constantly checking people's statue's every 5 minutes, i'd rather be outside doing stuff like hiking, and stuff but hey thats just me if you want to spend your whole life staring at a screen be my guest. but when the zombie apocolypse your facebook won't be there to show you how to survive.

I know kids today think that their parents and grandparents are too old for Facebook. But no one is too old to be on Facebook. What annoys me are the people who think we must know their pee and poop schedule, as well.

I agree, no one is too old to be on facebook. That comment should have not made the list.

I didn't know there was an age-limit on Fazebook, guess I'm going to have to stop posting on my niece's wall...color me red.

I love facebook. I'm 35 and live in another state away from my fam. I love posting nice pictures that my loved ones can see. I only have a couple of friends and relatives. If I personally don't know who you I won't accept your request. I see some of my friends have like 50-70 or 270 friends. I'm like really? you know all 70 or 250? but whatever. I just use it for sharing pics that are nicer in quality than my camera phone.

I spent 20 years in the AF and another 15 in the workforce. Between that and a boatload of aunts and uncles and cousins, I have over 350 Facebook friends all over the world. And I know all of them. Generalizing doesn't really work very well in this day and age. BTW, I am well north of 50.

Well said...my comment hasn't shown up yet, but I do like yours!!! How old is too old anyway??? lol I'm a muploader according to this article and the annoying Aunt...I'm 48, but that doesn't stop me from checking in with my nephews who by the way contact or comment on my wall posts first...lol
