John Mayer's 'Shadow Days' Teaser Premieres

John Mayer

First Posted: 02/17/2012 9:26 am Updated: 02/17/2012 9:26 am

John Mayer has released a 60-second clip of his new single "Shadow Days," off his upcoming album Born And Raised.

The singer premiered the clip on his official Tumblr yesterday along with the message, "Been looking forward to a post like this since October 14, 2010, the first day I started writing this group of songs... Enjoy."

At the end of 2011, Mayer suffered from the throat condition granuloma, which caused him to cancel concert appearances and postpone work on Born And Raised.

"This is a temporary setback, though I'm not sure how long or short a period of time it will be," Mayer wrote on his Tumblr. "I've got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear."

The song sounds like typical Mayer, with a soothing vocal track over the familiar blend of guitar and drums that his fans have come to love over the course of his career. "It sucks to be honest / And it hurts to be real / But it's nice to make some love that I can finally feel," Mayer croons on the song.

Born And Raised , set to be released sometime this year, will be Mayer's first album since 2009's Battle Studies.

You know, if you take some time to look around and see what he's accomplished you can refresh your memory on how good he once was, and probably still is. Look up some of his live performances on Youtube, you'll find thousands of comments from people blown away by the technical prowess he has with the guitar, and the complex tunings and tempos he plays live as he mixes it up. Also, people marvel at how he can light up an arena when it's just him, his guitar, a stool, a microphone and a spotlight shining on him. The guy can play. I know he turned a lot of people off when he opened his mouth about Jennifer Simpson and Jennifer Aniston, and other topics frankly, but hey, he's an irreverent musician I guess. No matter what, he's not flapping his gums now about anything personal/controversial/dbaggerous right now with this press release, is he? So why do a lot of commenters look backwards and recall other stuff to bolster ripping him? It's ugly, to me. I guess I wish that threads on Huff Po, and lots of news magazines/opinion sites had a better ratio of appreciation to flaming...in the favor of appreciation. Why do people like to write about what they don't like? Why put that opinion/perspective out there first, loudly, at the drop of a hat? *sigh* Now, I'm actually focusing on being negative about commenters...it's a vicious cycle I guess!

I totally agree. John Mayer is AMAZING live. He is one of the most talented musicians out there and is the most gifted guitarist of his generation. Only this song doesn't really show off that talent. It is not possible for John Mayer to write a bad song. He is destined for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is regarded in the same league as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton. Even if you don't care for his genre of music you can not deny his talent. I believe he has been very unfairly portrayed by the media. He is an honest person and when asked questions by the media he answers sometimes too honestly and it ends up backfiring on him. The media attacks this poor guy like vultures because they know they can put him in a bad situation and sell the story and make him look bad. His only problem is the bad judgement in the women he dated. Why doesn't anyone attack that little troll Taylor Swift for that tacky song she wrote about him and put on her record? Funny he is attacked for answering reporters questions on a street corner but she can be a jerk and put it to song and is hailed as the sweetheart of country music. Jessica Simpson is a the stupidest human being alive and Jennifer Aniston still to this day is pining away for Brad Pitt. Who can blame him for dumping them?

health condition? did his face get stuck whole trying to sing?

his over-inflated ego and toxic personality are the health issues. i used to like his music before his "health issues" got in the way.

Maybe nobody will buy the album and radio stations won't play him.

mr. mayer, just don't do any in depth interviews, expressing your inner most racists thoughts, and and focus on your musical instead.
