Pot Plane: 40 Pounds Of Marijuana Found Aboard Plane Intercepted Near Marine One

By JIM KUHNHENN 02/16/12 09:01 PM ET AP

WASHINGTON -- Two Air Force F-16 fighters intercepted a privately owned Cessna airplane that entered the same Los Angeles airspace as Marine One on Thursday as the helicopter was ferrying President Barack Obama.

Police discovered about 40 pounds of marijuana inside the plane after it landed at Long Beach Airport, a law enforcement official said. The official was not authorized to comment publicly on the drug investigation and spoke under condition of anonymity.

The Secret Service said the president was never in any danger.

In a statement, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said it scrambled two F-16 fighters from March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County, Calif., to intercept a Cessna 182 over Los Angeles about 2:30 p.m. EST.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Virginia Kice said the department's Homeland Security Investigations unit questioned the pilot, who has been turned over to Long Beach police and remains in custody. He will face local prosecution, Kice said.

NORAD spokesman Michael Kucharek declined to disclose how close the Cessna came to Marine One.

The Federal Aviation Administration had notified pilots that there was an eight-mile radius around Los Angeles International Airport that was off-limits to air traffic Thursday, spokeswoman Brie Sachse said. It was that radius that the Cessna violated.

Sachse declined to release the Cessna's tail number, saying the agency doesn't identify planes involved in security incidents.

In a age of Meth, crack and several other illegal substances, marijuana hardly seems like a drug anymore!

Okay, maybe the safety of the president was worth doing the drug bust.
But...this thing with jailing hundreds of thousands of people and spending billions of tax dollars to 'stop' a weed that grows by the side of the road in most of the 50 states is ludicrous.
It would be laughable if it weren’t for the colossal suffering caused by the Drug Prevention Industry, which includes police, lawyers, judges, politicians and of course all those investors betting on for-profit prisons.
Funny, I don’t recall reading even once in the past decade of a wealthy white North American being arrested for involvement in illicit drugs here. Guess all our suits are just honest, ‘best-practices’ kinda guys.
As an aside, I must chide campus police at our top colleges because somehow they have not noticed the oceans of illegal drugs at many Ivy League schools. Shucks, I guess those kids are just too darned smart to get caught by mere professional detectives operating with zero legal restraints on eavesdropping technology.
But you know what? If you arrest only poor people for breaking drug laws, they aren’t really drug laws.

You saw what happened in Florida with Scott pushing to privatize all the prisons in Florida and hand them over to CCA, with false claims on saving money for the state. He lost, but it seems he might be able to still pass it through by executive order. Mike Fasano, a state Senator (R) blocked him, and the ACLU put out a report on the dangers of allowing private prisons to take over, Mike Brickner's report is available on the ACLU site in Ohio. With all the money to be had by all, it's obvious why that weed remains criminalized, and people get stiff sentences for non-violent crimes. CCA is trying to privatize 48 states and buy up all the facilities. The banks in the U.S. are holding billions of Caetel money and Big Pharma pays for ads touting the dangers of illegal drugs, so that they can make mega bucks on the poisons they are pushing. Which by the way seems to be addicting people in record numbers . They all have a hand in this, and the toadies in Congress are only too happy to pass the Draconian laws that help their cronies bottom line.

Gee, that almost sounds like different forms of, you know, criminal conspiracy. I'll bet the DOJ is very upset about such doin's. I don't see any way to stop all the scams that once represented a new idea in government, popular sovereignty, but maybe just a little more focus on this appalling anti-marijuana industry could help a few people a little. I seem to recall that the excellent American author Ken Kesey was finally brought low for growing pot on his farm. His jail time more or less finished him. So when do they make snoring, nail biting and sneezing 'terrorist acts'? Or have they already? ( Note: I don't even like pot; the smell makes me a little sick.)
