NEW YORK — Ray J – who was one of the people who spent time with Whitney Houston in her last days – is expressing his sorrow over her loss.
In a statement to The Associated Press on Friday, he said he's spent the last few days trying to "process the emptiness that I feel."
The singer said the world lost an icon but he lost a "close friend." Calling her by her nickname, he added: "Nippy I miss you so much!"
His representative, Courtney Barnes, says Ray J, whose sister is singer Brandy, will be at Saturday's funeral for Houston in Newark, N.J.
Ray J and Houston spent time together in the days before her death. She died in a hotel suite in Beverly Hills, Calif., last Saturday.

This kind of talk is why I hate today's media. So Ray J made a statement. I mean the press was gunning for this. The press puts it out there. And who are we to say Ray J cannot grieve in any way that is comfortable for him. He didn't say anything horrible. Why are people all over him? And to those of you slamming Ms Houston, we don't know why she died. The coroner's report lists cause of death as "deferred", meaning no cause has been determined yet. That is the fact. Jumping to the conclusion that she died due to drug abuse is premature. Public discourse is swirling the drain because of the sorry state of the media AND the anonymity of a person behind a keyboard. Stay above the fray people.

Ray J was heartbroken at the funeral. It was sad. I tend to look for the good -- I think they had a bond, platonic or not. She was a woman with needs, you know, and 48 is not 90! Ray J is about 30, not a minor!! It happens all the time, folks, especially with men. They probably met when Brandy (his sister) was playing Cinderella to her (wonderful) Fairy Godmother.

People when they are struck by grief can act in a number of ways. I am sure he was overcome by his grief and not looking for attention like some are trying to state. I think that they must have had a bond to keep coming back to each other even with a 17 year age difference. I saw the funeral on youtube and I saw the raw emotion on many of the people there all of the negativity for Ray J by all of these people commenting makes him look better in my opinion.

I wouldn't say that everyone is her friend have you actually read some of these comments? I would say that everyone is her Judge, Jury and Executioner. Besides its no surprise I am sure that you weren't a fanatical, faithful Whitney Supporter...and you are here as well commenting. I myself hadn't thought much of her since I purchased her album when it came out in 2009 around the same time I saw her interview with Oprah...and Guess what? I saw that interview again after she passed...its not being phony its being presented with news that makes you want to care again or at least remember.

What good is broke to you if you're dead and you leave a child behind that you love and want to have a good life. Money isn't everything, but it sure can buy you a lot of enjoyment while you are dead and provide for your heirs when you die. You can also create a foundation to help others. Unless you are mother Teresa or some other person who help the poor and give your life and any valuable to that cause, being broke and dying means you leave behind love ones and heirs that you hope can carve out a decent or better life for themselves.
