Taco Bell Doritos Tacos Go Nationwide: New Dish Available Everywhere March 8

Taco Bell Doritos Taco

Depending on your orientation towards novelty in fast food, March 8th will either be a secular pseudo-holiday or the latest step on the well-trodden path to apocalypse. Why? On Thursday, March 8th, 2012, Mexican fast food chain Taco Bell will finally bring its long-gestating Doritos Locos Tacos -- which subs out a normal hard corn taco shell for a folded circle of Doritos -- to restaurants across the nation.

The national debut will hit under a year after the first reports of Taco Bell's experiments with Dorito-based shells emerged -- and just four months after Taco Bell announced it would be bringing Doritos Locos Tacos to stores around the country.

The tacos will cost $1.29 for a regular and $1.69 for a "Supreme." Taco Bell executives indicated that the Doritos Locos Taco would be a regular fixture on the menu for the foreseeable future, so no need to rush to stores the moment the tacos are available.

Still, Taco Bell seems to be anticipating (or maybe hoping for) such a rush: its website features a countdown clock to the Doritos Locos Taco front and center. It's also allegedly prepped 85 million Doritos taco shells in advance of the launch. That's almost one for every three Americans.

Taco Bell has been frantically releasing new products recently, perhaps in an attempt to distract consumers from a series of PR snafus over the past few years. The Yum Brands-owned chain is testing a new "First Meal" menu of breakfast items and an upscale Cantinas line that it hopes will be able to compete with Chipotle.

A Taco encased in a nacho-cheese Dorito shell??? Oy.

I actually like Taco bell because it offers several vegetarian options, but many of the menu items sound like they were invented by people who enjoy herbal products on a regular basis (if you get my drift).

Well, this is one way to mask the fact that your food tastes like crap, I suppose.

I find it ironic that the advertisement shows approximately seven shreds of cheese, and that is exactly how much cheese ends up on my taco at the local Taco Bell. #StingyWithCheese

Intellectually, I know this is so wrong.

But, my taste buds say ... hey, sounds great!

We've been making this for years, a bag of Doritos, ground meat, and toppings. You could get meat and cheese added at the corner store when I was in grammar school. I'm not eating taco bell but I will continue eating it my way.

Doritos has been ripping people off a long time now. Thou used to enjoy getting a nice big bag for a buck 50, now it like a third of the size for 5 bucks. Well they can take they`re items & cram them side ways some plase where it be very dark.

It's not just Doritos, look at the price of potato chips. If you look close at alot of products you will see that the prices might not have gone up alot, but the quantity has dropped. What use to be a pound (16oz) is now 14oz. What use to be a quart isn't quite a quart anymore....It's never going to end...more of our money for less & less product.

Never eat fast food. I lost 70 pounds since the last time I ate a McDonalds. Do you really think they would make food as healthy as you would at home? Make your own tacos, Make a run for su casa!
