Eugene, OR should be on the list if only for the free availability of choice bud.

Paris and London are "Tourist Expensive;" costs for students, who don't stay in hotels, eat at expensive resturants, and go to lots of West End shows are much lower. Our son went to the Royal College of Music in London, the total cost was much lower (counting the cost of three round trips home per year, housing, meals, tuition, supplies and a student transit card) than tuition and personal transportation alone at University of Southern California, a local university. The added value of going abroad, experiencing different cultures is a plus that should not be ignored.

What was the overall cost?

Yeah USC is a PRIVATE COLLEGE. It's a lot more expensive to go there than UCLA (which a better school).

USC is the migration destiny of every Tinsel Town producer's ne'er-do-well mediocre spawn...money is all that is needed to gain "admission" and a coke habit.

Paris and London, sure. But no New York City in the top 10! Students are in college to learn and there are is not other place that has as many learning opportunities outside of college than NYC. From museums to botanic gardens to the U.N. extracurricular learning opportunities abound. But I guess learning resources aren't important when going to college. (sarcasm)

Why are small towns small?

Because almost no one wants to live there.

cheap?  lol.  I don't think any of these cities are cheap so they are great for students fortunate enough to live off the parental teet.

Yeah, it's BC just off the Quad looking at Higgins Hall. Must be an old picture because during my final year there they put up some obnoxious statue of St. Ignatius on the Higgins Green...

Richmond, VA. Inexpensive to live there; two universities, one of which is one of the coolest arts universities in the world, VCU.

My oldest graduated from VCU and still lives in Richmond because it is such a great city and the cost is so low to live there.  Richmond is one of the most underrated cities in the country for just about everything.

BTW, VCU is not only a great "Arts" University but a great "just about everything" school.  Their curriculum is wide and varied and first rate not to mention one of the great medical school in the country.
