Maine Caucus 2012: Republicans Hold Caucus Postponed By Bad Weather

Maine Caucus

02/18/12 06:31 PM ET  AP

EAST MACHIAS, Maine — Ron Paul has gained 83 votes on Mitt Romney following a Republican presidential caucus in eastern Maine, where voting last week had been postponed due to bad weather. Romney still holds a 156-vote lead over Paul in statewide totals.

Paul received 163 votes in Saturday's Washington County caucus, where Republicans from more than two dozen towns gathered to cast their votes. Romney received 80 votes. Rick Santorum got 57 votes and Newt Gingrich received four votes.

The Maine Republican Party last week declared Romney the winner of the state's GOP caucuses, but Washington County Republicans were angered their votes weren't counted after their caucus was postponed last Saturday because of a snowstorm.

County Chairman Chris Gardner says the state party should include the caucus tally in the final results.

The Republican State Committee will consider the request next month.

A number of votes did not count in a number of counties. In particular, Waterville in Kennebeck County was not counted, despite the fact that it was leaning heavily toward Ron Paul. Other counties, including Washington County, were not counted, and included in the statewide results. If the Republicans can't get their act together in Iowa and now in Maine, why should they be the ones demanding tighter controls that would disenfranchise Democrats? Voter ID laws? Bah!

Uh how does that work? Postpone a caucus and then hold it a week later when only one candidate is in town to campaign?

Massive snowstorm forecast by the National Weather Service tells the local committee that unfortunately, the weather would be too dangerous, and the roads not safe enough for travel. That's how it works. Not counting the results despite the fact that the people had a reasonable reason as to why they could not vote, makes no sense to me.

The whole thing seems fishy. First they said they wouldn't count those votes then they backtrack. If this is how the Repubs run voting when they are in complete control, one has to wonder.

GOP playbook, #1: Make the accusation first against the other side. The media won't challenge you, people won't believe them if they did, and you can continue doing them yourself. Works for voter fraud, insider trading, infidelity, and all forms of misconduct.

The GOP is just practicing for the general election

State GOP has already agreed who the winner will be...pay to play the GOP way

That seems like the obvious case. Some caucuses found out their totals were not recorded properly or included in the total at all. In every case dr paul was shorted. The gop officials will not correct the totals until march 10 after the march 6 super tuesday.

Our democracy lies in the balance.
These repeated missteps in counting are to lay the groundwork for questions about accuracy in November.
Do not lose sight of this.
Rove wants us to anticiapte a close election (with these flawed candidates, no less).
They are aggressively attempting to disenfranchise voters perceived to lean democratic, and changing voter registration rules in swing states.
The controversy is set. Having arranged the outcome before, the GOP is emboldened and motivated to do it again.

High school elections attract more votes than this meaningless nonsense that is not national news.
10:28 AM on 02/20/2012
These are the same folks that want to lecture the nation about the integrity of our elections.
Republicans seem to have no problem not counting the votes of their own base.
I am sure they care deeply that every democratic and independent vote counts for 2012.

It's TOO FUNNY, watching Ron Paul, the candidate of "personal responsibility" as he whines and complains about how the other candidates are "victimizing" him.

Yes indeed, the candidate who would leave you in the ditch is asking for your support!

He is asking for your support to overcome the terrible Republican cronyism, so that he can take his place as the leader of the Republicans.

Let him spend YOUR money today so he won't spend the government's money tomorrow!

Feel Sorry for the poor bloke and help support the only guy who can make it on his own.

Paul has never once whined or complained in this entire campaign.

Glad to know you're afraid of freedom.

NEVER ONCE WHINED?

I don't watch much TV, but I sure saw him on a couple of news programs when the issue was the rascist comments in his newsletter, and he was whining and whimpering about not true, you asked this before, I don't want to talk about . . .

Also saw hiim get up and walk off a live interview, whining about the questions being asked.

Maybe I'm watching another Ron Paul?
06:10 PM on 02/22/2012
When did he whine about other candidates "victimizing" him?
I HIGHLY doubt Ron Paul would leave you in a ditch. You're being dramatic.
I'd rather him spend the money I directly give him, then the money he got through corporations who only exist because they got bailed out, with our money.

It is time for the Supreme court to step in and declare Mitt the winner! They need to take a lesson from the past (Bush v Gore).

Instead of Rock Paper Scissors, call the Supreme Court!

A round of Rock, Paper, Scissors would end in a three day debate as each candidate argued why their choice should have won based on the found fathers, the Bible, and Obama's "poor" record.

"The Bible and Constitution is written on paper, therefore paper wins"
"Ahh....but Jesus said to build a house upon a rock, therefore paper wins"
"However...you'd need industrial scissors to cut through the debt that is Obama's fault, therefore scissors win"

-sigh- Sad to say, it would probably be the most intelligent debate they've had to date.

The "Party of No" is bound and determined to cut down on voter fraud, yet commits fraud on their own Party voters.

Reminds me of the parable of the scorpion and the frog. The gop cant help themselves, it is in their nature to cheat even against themselves.

Does anyone really care? I mean, this ain't Bush v Gore. Nothing at stake here; the GOP has no candidates, no ideas, no chance.

You keep thinking that then your wake up in November and say damn.

gore would have as bad as bush in other ways, and obama is simply bush 3rd term. yes people care. people who see the brilliance of RON PAUL'S FREEDOM MOVEMENT . all the rest are the same old politics as usual: status quo, lies, spending, debt, idiotic foreign policy, wefare/warfare, racist justice system, more govt, more loss of liberties, eventual dollar collapse etc etc

That's what Ron Paul GETS for hanging out with Republicans

He knew very well what he was getting into. Second guessing this man is
ill advised. Honesty and courage are potent weapons against the lies
and manipulation of both parties.
