Celebrity Whitney Houston Covers: Stars Remember Legend In Her Own Words

First Posted: 02/19/2012 11:00 am   Updated: 02/19/2012 1:27 pm

There is no doubt that Whitney Houston's music will live on far beyond her short 48 years, and the proof is already in the making. Before Houston's death, her emotional ballads were the DNA of what aspiring singers hoped to do justice.

Stars like Jessie J, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson covered Houston's hits before her untimely death and their admiration for the vocal great has become a testament to her iconic industry status.

But for those who have been brave enough to touch Houston's soulful lyrics following her death, the stakes are even higher. Jennifer Hudson delivered a pitch perfect tribute to her idol at the 2012 Grammy Awards, with her rendition of the iconic love song, "I Will Always Love You." Even country crooner LeAnn Rimes and rocker Chris Cornell paid homage to the legend by singing her praises.

Watch all of these celebrity tributes to Houston below:

"I Will Always Love You" was written by Dolly Parton; she will get the royalties, not Whitney Houston. Ms. Houston did not write her own songs, so the songwriters are going to get rich from this, not her estate.

It was clear to the dullest eye that this was going to be the outcome of her life, and many were surprised it took so long. Still, a wasted life is both sad and depressing.

It was a beautiful 5 hour ceremony. That the Democrats must of been shaking in their boots about and scared them to death.
It was totally religous and Sharpton or Jessie couldn't say a thing.
This is wear the black comunity that embrassed religon instead of what the Democrats believe and it's not in religon and want to distance it's party from religon and demonize it and those who believe as extremists.

Whitney RIP you went before your time and you will be missed dearly. God Bless !

We always have one person who has to take a persons demise and make it political. Whitney was a talent and I am sure when she sang she didn't think Democrat or Republican.

I love Jennifer Hudson, but I think Amber Riley or Christina Aguilera would have given a better Grammy tribute to Whitney.

Too bad that here's a page celebrating Whitney's covers and people are still nasty. You must have miserable, yet PERFECT lives. Good for you to have no faults so much that you're confident throwing rocks in your glass house(s).

I have a new respect for Jessie J. Wowzers. It's interesting to see who can really sing. She and Javier impressed me. Christina, I expected. C'mon. Of course she's gonna bring it.

least favored was Katy Perry

Katy Perry's version of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was horrible, her voice is nothing compared to Whitney's, she looks like trash prancing around half naked onstage, too! Some of these young female singers need to learn the difference between classy and trashy. Jennifer Hudson, on the other hand, was awesome singing "I Will Always Love You," and her tribute was my favorite. Amber Riley from Glee also did a remarkable job with "I Will Always Love You."

If you look at the young women who worked with Whitney, Jordin Sparks, Alicia Keys, Brandy, Monica... none of them dress like .. Katy Perry... And they don't get half of the recognition. It's a shame.

she, by her own, destroyed her career - I have, absolutely, NO sympathy for her...
11:00 PM on 02/20/2012
she didn't ask for your sympathy. But how about a little compassion for a fellow human being and her humanity.

Regardless of her mistakes or anyone elses and their lives end up in tragedy no one deserves the ridicule that's spewed out of peoples mouth or these blogs. I have a little prayer I would like to pray for them. That prayer is that they suffer the judgement where they judge others wether it be in thier own lives or the life of thier loved ones or friends. See it is easy to be cruel about people and thier situation when it's not attatched to you but things are different when they hit home.

No body cares what you have sympathy for, in the grand skeam of life you are no one of importance except to your small circle of friends and family. And they are not important.

I didn't listen to all of the renditions, but I liked Amber Riley's ("Glee") the best of those I heard. The song was originally sung, of course, as a country ballad by Dolly Parton:
